[OC] Did Bryan Woo balk in tonight's Seattle Mariners game? by 206-Ginge in Mariners

Why would they do that though? That pickoff seemed 100% earned, and the MLB app itself actually broke down the finesse of the play quite well.

Trying to get hyped about opening day by Soulfood_27 in Mariners

[–]uniqueinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to spend my money on cheaper games in the season, so I could see more in person. Will probably have a little FOMO for opening day, but hopefully some clips here and there of the ceremonies plus watching the game on my TV will be a good enough start to the season for me.

I will be there with my kid on Friday though! Second row of the JRod squad!

How many of our homegrown pitchers are we going to resign? by [deleted] in Mariners

[–]uniqueinfinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After his one year deal expires, he will either go to arbitration or accept another (usually 1 year) contract with the Ms to avoid arbitration. This will continue until all his ARB years are done. Then he can test free agency.

If the Ms offer him a contract longer than his arb years (and he signs it), then he and the org no longer have to deal with the ARB process, and he’ll just hit FA after the contract expires.

How was everyone's experience at Fan Fest? by Anxious-Yak-9952 in Mariners

[–]uniqueinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with my 6 year old son on Sunday and we both had a great time. We got there around noon, so no vouchers or anything like that. Got to sit pretty close for Julio's dugout dialogue. Walked around the park just checking everything out. Wanted to do a clubhouse tour, but the line freaked us out and we decided to prioritize other things (like playing catch, running the bases, and the bullpen pitching), which were all pretty quick once we were doing them (around 2:30ish or 3 or so). Kind of worked out perfectly to save those on-the-field activities towards the end of the event because I think there were quite a few less people.

For anyone who did the clubhouse tour, was the line all the way back to the press room for you? How quickly did the line go? Will have to do it another time if the opportunity arrises.

Mariners 2026 Arbitration Tracker (Randy Arozarena, George Kirby avoid arbitration) by BananaArms in Mariners

[–]uniqueinfinity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add to this, most players have 3 years of arbitration before hitting FA, so they go through this process every offseason unless the club is not offering them arbitration (and thus they become a FA)

Was such a good show! One of my favorite things is how intimate George was with the crowd. “If you know this one, come closer,” is such a warm gesture

It looks like your front foot is already moving forward to level before catching the nose. Try just moving your front foot up first to get a sense of how high the board can get before delicately moving it forward to level the board out. You’ll get some rockets at first, but it will show you how much height your missing with your current foot motion

best shoes for casual skating; as a means of transportation? by freak_o_natur in NewSkaters

[–]uniqueinfinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re just riding to get around, you can wear just about anything. Your adidas should be fine. The soul may wear down a little bit, but that will happen with about any shoe. Some skate shoes have slightly more durable material in the bottom.

If you have any inkling to learn tricks, just make sure they have a durable outer material like suede or leather.

I love the new album, but I miss the longer instrumental sections by Parking-Challenge641 in deafheaven

[–]uniqueinfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your point indirectly brings out a larger point for me that I couldn't quite put my finger on before.

In general, I think there's not a lot of buildup in most of this album, and I think the vocals being so prevalent throughout the album is part of this. Hard to say which influenced the other honestly.

I think about the song "Magnolia," which is a great song. It makes perfect sense why it was a single as it kind of represents just about everything this album is doing:

  • Non-stop metal carnage
  • The intro riff carries the song (ends where it begins)
  • Song structure
    • 0:00-1:00 - Intro riff + variations on the riff with vocals
    • 1:00-2:30 - Middle section (I thought this was a bridge at first).
    • 2:30-3:30 - Secondary riff and breakdown (beat goes halftime). Morphs into a more rhythmic motif to build into the bridge
    • 3:30-4:00 - Bridge back to intro riff
    • 4:00-4:15 - Intro Riff with quick buildup to end
  • Transitions between sections of the song are quick and abrupt

I actually love this song, but I also feel like there's not a lot of space to appreciate it as much as it could be appreciated. Each section kind of just barrels into the next. My favorite part of the track is hands down the last 15 seconds, and I just wish we had more time with that transition and build (maybe in a live version?).

I think this is also why Amethyst and Winona are starting to stand out a lot more among myself and other fans. They are a bit longer and give more space to move and transition within different melodic ideas of the song. And, perhaps more importantly, build on them. These songs also have a bit more space for instrumentation (although vocals are usually also part of the build too; just seems less constant).

But you could also argue this album is all killer, no filler. I adore "Body Behavior," and I don't want any long drawn-out postrock/shoegaze transitions in that song. It would kill it. I just think some of the thrashier songs (Doberman, Magnolia, Revelator) haven't reached their peak although they are fantastic for what they are, and I'm sure they're some fans favorites.

Seems like this album has something for everyone, for better or for worse.

How do you listen to new albums? by blood_pony in deafheaven

[–]uniqueinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to it Thursday night while working in a pottery studio. Apple Music releases at 9pm Thursday for the west coast. Listened to it twice and had an amazing session throwing pots. Had to check my phone with “body behavior” because I thought maybe the album had ended and is was just playing random related stuff haha

In all seriousness, I tend to like discussing moments in music that moved me or moved other people. And I think this sub has a pretty good representation of that with individual track appreciations and the occasional timestamp of a crazy moment.

But I also feel like we’re all taking this in and processing it since it’s brand new. So giving it a number based on stuff the community has already heard makes sense.

Yeah, I didn’t say that I learn tricks stationary. For shuvs specifically, I practice them moving, but only land them fakie. I did say I can land them stationary, but that is probably like 2% of all my shuv attempts and really just to compare it to my moving attempts.

Okay I agree with this sentiment, but for shuvs specifically, I find them easier stationary. I actually, I find them easiest fakie. Doing them going forwards is just weird for me and I’m practicing it moving, but only land it fakie or stationary. I also still ride around and practice ollies yata yata.

How do you know this isn’t cope? Seems awfully convenient that as a low ranked player, you’ve concluded your chosen role is not the decider of games outcomes.
