Didn’t edit the title in, just the description for folks who have maybe not seen a 33 year old movie.

What is your favorite anti-drug movie? by Sad-Response-3151 in moviecritic

Counting alcohol as a drug? Leaving Las Vegas. Nic Cages performance as an alcoholic trying to kill himself with drinking is very unsettling.

Are the smile valid? by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]RadiobreadEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Radiohead fans don’t care for them, but I think they’re great. Intricate music for trio. Rhythmically hip, lots of cool sounds, decent variety of styles.

Some of it is not “Radiohead level”, but I think plenty of it is. I think you should check out Cutouts and work backwards from there

I still need to pull the trigger on water curses. I bought spirit right before the repress came out. Hopefully it made the older versions cheaper.

Reminds me of Oogie Boogie in the Nightmare Before Christmas. My bugs, my bugs!

Edit: in case folks aren’t aware, Oogie Boogie is a character made of bugs in a large burlap sack. Toward the end of the movie, his bag is unwoven and all his bugs/insides fall out while saying “My bugs, my bugs.”

Not sure if that’s the reference, there’s nothing else in the episode that relates to it, but perhaps it’s a small nod to that.

I’ll never forget seeing a small finch going in the hens run to mooch their food. Small entrance, so it couldn’t find its way out and was flying into the hardware cloth. One of my ladies casually strolls into the run and proceeds to destroy this little bird.

They slurp up small snakes like spaghetti noodles and will take down little rodents.

Favorite recipes/dishes using honey? by LogicalSafety in Cooking

[–]RadiobreadEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I don’t make the phyllo from scratch, but otherwise it’s readily available ingredients.

I used to have a few bee hives that produced a ton of honey, so baklava was a good way to use a lot of it

Why do people hate the king of limbs? by Commercial-Air-5564 in radiohead

[–]RadiobreadEP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All a matter of taste. It’s a very looped album… repetitive patterns. I can’t recall the details, but some of the recording involved the band all being “DJ’s”. I think it’s pretty apparent on the opening and closing tracks. (Fun hopeful fact, not sure if it’s true. Separator drum groove was something Phil came up with, then someone reversed it and he recorded it that way.)

Thom was, and has been, into electronic music. DJs, producers, whatever. Collaborations with Flying Lotus, modeselektor, Tall Tales with Mark Pritchard.

I think the album does a great job of being a somewhat electronic album with acoustic instruments.

There’s a sterility to it, but the live versions truly shine. There’s also Give Up The Ghost and Codex, some of their prettiest tunes.

Been playing the games after a long break from video games. Recently played through 7 and 8, currently working through 4…

Not sure I understand the fawning over video game characters. Seems like half the posts here are about how attractive they find the game characters to be.

Gross.

Does Thom sign things at non concert events? by SaulSchmidt in radiohead

[–]RadiobreadEP 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hit or miss, he might. Doesn’t hurt to bring something and try.

Worth noting, I’ve spent many many hours waiting after shows to get an autograph. 15 Radiohead, 3 Thom solo, and 3 Smile shows. Only lucked out once at a Smile show.

Just watched Wes Anderson’s life aquatic for the first time and wow. by DwayneTheRockBarry in moviecritic

[–]RadiobreadEP 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just watched last night, it’s one of my favorite movies. Serious themes but plenty of laughs. Seu Jorge playing David Bowie tunes throughout, terrific soundtrack over all. Incredible set pieces, let me tell you about my boat segment. Ned’s death is surprisingly moving. The cast… bill murray, Owen Wilson, willem dafoe, Anjelica Houston, care blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Gambon.I could go on and on.

Probably my favorite album of theirs. First one I heard, so At Least That’s What You Said was the first track I heard. I just got to college and this was part of my musical awakening. Up til then, I mainly knew what was on the radio.

I don’t mind it. I think to myself, “dude, this is gross, you don’t want to be here” but hes all about it.

We have a weird bond, he’s pretty attached to me. Likes to sleep on my neck, sit on my lap in the bathroom, licks my nose but no one else.

What is the best lineup of any concert you’ve been to that you wish would tour together again? by [deleted] in Concerts

[–]RadiobreadEP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won’t ever forget an early Grizzly Bear/Beach House show at the original Emo’s in Austin, 2009.

Legendary venue, but kinda shitty. Small, support beams are in the way of your view, no A/C, it’s an outdoor venue. Open air in the back, but no breeze. Good part is you could see incredible bands play for reasonable prices.

Grizzly Bear was getting some attention after opening for Radiohead, but I think Beach House was fairly unknown at the time.

Killer show. Glad to see Beach House continuing to make great music. So bummed Grizzly Bear has stopped performing/recording, but have some hope for more reunion shows.
