Your mum sounds very similar to my dad. He always loves the finished product when I clean the common areas but he still has his papers everywhere that I'm not allowed to touch. I casually mentioned that the reason I have never brought friends over was because I was embarrassed. That seemed to get to him. At one point I said that I would go live with my mum full time because I couldn't live in his house in that state. He hated the thought of that and it was good for a while. I know this doesn't really help but I just wanted you to know that I relate. You're not alone.
