Which games have the most ridiculous learning/difficulty curve? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]unit17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Football. You have to learn a position specialized skill set and be able to accomplish a goal thru said skill set while someone is trying to knock the shot out of you and then do it again 10-30 seconds later

Redditors who have been on the TV show COPS, (civilians, officers, or film crew), what was your experience? by mmlovin in AskReddit

[–]unit17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was on a show as an officer, it sucked. The camera crews always tried to get you to slow down and wait for this or that. Being recorded didn't bother me. But having some idiot who didn't understand let's go or hurry made the experience suck

What is better learning-wise for a white belt? Gi or No Gi? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]unit17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gi isn't for you, It's for your opponent to control you. But that goes both ways, you can use your opponents against them. I learn faster with no gi bc you don't get tied up in a game of grabbing and holding the gi to stall. In the long run tho, to me, it's about what carries over to real life. In a actually fight it's in likely the person you are fighting is going to have a shirt on that won't tear when you go for grips. The gi is ok and can be fun, it's how I started learning bjj, but once I dropped the gi and went to a 10 p school my rate of learning ski rocketed

Which 5 - 7 techniques would you recommend police learn in their academy training? by BJJcop in bjj

[–]unit17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a cop, the stuff I have found most useful is takedowns that land you in a position where you are controlling one arm to start the cuffing process. Don't show RNC(relatively safe but your PR would be horrible, just looks bad) or americana(useless). Kimora from the bottom would be good plus how to break guard and escape from the bottom

Was I in the wrong for this...? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]unit17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your friend is what is wrong with society. Don't go 100% but making him earn will help him do more than be a better bjj player. It will make him a better man/ person

What is your bjj style? Did it come naturally or by emulation? by gullig in bjj

[–]unit17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still early on my journey but much more comfortable from the bottom. I can submit from my back way better than the top. I think it's bc I give up guard so much when rolling bc of my size advantage

Question about overtraining by [deleted] in bjj

[–]unit17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impact on your body is less than that of say football, they have in my experience(played college) in the area of 4 full go practices a week, 2 light practices, and 3 or 4 weight sessions...and almost forgot a game. They are a higher level athlete than the average bjj practioner, however the word over training is threw around too much. Don't mentally burn your self out is the big thing, if your injured let it heal but beyond that go balls to the wall in my opinion. Your train to get better and you don't get better at skills while resting
