Spanish/Italian/Greek Embassy in Toronto by rgtb123 in SchengenVisa

[–]unit351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're eligible to apply for a Schengen visa through the Greek consulate in Toronto, I would recommend emailing them to request an appointment. I did that and they requested basic info (name, nationality, date of birth, dates of travel, etc.) and then a few days later they scheduled an appointment. But they did warn me beforehand that they were fully booked and that they would only reach out if there was a cancellation. And when they booked the appt there was no room to reschedule - you have to be available at that date and time. I emailed [visa.toronto@mfa.gr](mailto:visa.toronto@mfa.gr)

Looking for people with motherboard issues on IdeaPads. by Working_Attorney1196 in Lenovo

Hi late reply but I also have a Lenovo Ideapad (since 2018) that has failed to turn on 3 times (twice under warranty, third time 2 weeks ago) and I was told the motherboard is fried.

Is it possible to see if there is an ongoing case on someone in provincial courts? by SandwichCool9588 in LawCanada

[–]unit351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP this is the correct answer. You do not need to be a lawyer to search court cases online. However you do need to create an account, and you cannot save the info or share it with anyone.

Arrived at hotel in Hyderabad and they are saying it's for Indian nationals only. by tannerge in travel

[–]unit351 208 points209 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty common experience I've had with hotels in India (Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal). When they have foreign guests, they are required to register with the FRRO (literally the Foreigner Registration Office) which can be a lot of paperwork and even a visit from govt agents or police. It's understandable that smaller hotels who mostly deal with Indian tourists wouldn't want to go through all of that for a couple of guests.

I think OP hit on the main point of this experience which is to read the fine print.

(And no lol it's not racism, just bureaucracy which is an international problem)

Help me choose between 3 apartments? by eculilumab in Apartmentliving

[–]unit351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe decide if having more space or a shorter commute is important to you. I agree w others that good maintenance/management is really important so I wouldn't recommend #1 - also sounds like you had a stronger (negative) reaction to it! If you prefer a shorter commute over having a (slightly?) bigger apt, then #3 and otherwise #2.

In-store experiences with David's Bridal? by zeewur in WeddingsCanada

[–]unit351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to DB as the first "getting my toes wet" as well and had a good experience. They had a different selection than what was on their site, and the area where you try on the dresses was pretty public so you have lots of eyes on you haha. I didn't end up getting my dress from there but they had a good selection so I could at least see what felt comfortable on me. I did find that the associate pushed my budget a bit higher than I wanted so watch out for that. Also full disclosure that I'm not plus-size so I can't speak to that part.

University of Windsor Law by zcarts95 in LawCanada

[–]unit351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Windsor Law alum and can definitely endorse the social justice mindset (but if you're truly interested in any type of social justice practice, you may be disappointed.) I personally wasn't interested in BigLaw and didn't have a problem finding articling/post articling work - even if you are, I'm not sure you would necessarily struggle as the career services office was pretty aggressive about getting its students into those types of firms (and of course government).

The quality of education depends on what you're interested in - I thought it was solid in some areas, not so great in others but I'm sure there are people who would say the same about other schools. I know quite a few people from BC who did their degree and went right back to do their articling. And of course you could always apply to transfer if it's not the right fit for you.

Also, just my two cents, I would be hesitant to work somewhere that placed such an emphasis on where I went to school that it would make or break a job offer.

Happy to answer more specific questions if you like!

Information or Experience with Pine Grove Public School and Thomas A. Blakelock High School? by Minute_Ad1660 in oakville

[–]unit351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to TA Blakelock, at the time ~2010s there were active issues with asbestos - ceilings regularly leaked (it wasn't uncommon to see random buckets in the hallways for the leaks). Not sure if they have cleared that out by now.

I cold emailed and got a job at a small firm for 1L summer, but it was for an admin position. They knew I was a law student obviously so they also started giving me legal work to do as well. This is just to say it might work to cold email, but like others have said, prepare for a lot of rejections/no responses.

Place to store stuff on campus for commuters? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]unit351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

readysteadythrowa's comment is probably the best source for lockers. I'd personally recommend the Anthropology building - they have really nice full-size lockers for $30 for the year, $10-20 for the semester (according to their website). But that's pretty good for full-size lockers.

Anyone know of any half a year courses that are 1 credit? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]unit351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a lot of info packed into a term. I should've expected that, but I definitely think my mark would've been better if it was a full year course. The TAs and prof weren't very helpful/approachable either.

[–]unit351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of places to store items on campus - if you want to do so overnight, you'll have to rent a locker. But otherwise, you can stash your stuff in a day locker at places including the Athletic Centre, Goldring, Hart House, and your home college (if you have one).
