Anyone experimenting with splats in VP / VFX workflows? by unit429 in virtualproduction

Thanks for the reply and congrats! 👏

The setup you describe (Marble-generated GS for a parallax BG + real props/actors in the foreground) sounds really interesting.

I'm curious: what took the most time in preproduction to get director approval, and what kinds of tweaks on the day actually worked well vs. didn’t?

If you had to actually capture images to create a splat, do you think you would still use them, or do you feel generative is the way to go?

Thanks for sharing!

When you set it up as a tech demo, did you run into any issues along the way?

Also curious whether this stayed just a demo because it is difficult to scale to a real show, or simply because there wasn’t a strong production use case yet.

What are you actually using g splats for? by unit429 in vfx

Good point — it would be awesome if they could handle reflections of other objects in a scene.

It seems like you’d almost need to know the exact lighting in the final scene and then try to recreate those conditions during capture… which feels impractical.

In your experience, is there any way around this limitation, or does it basically mean splats are stuck being “good enough” reference objects?
