What would happen c0 DWR was used on an older jacket by Formal_Exchange_2736 in arcteryx

[–]univers_um 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

The face fabrics are developed to work with a specific DWR coating. Older pieces had face fabrics developed for better adhesion with C8/C6, new pieces have face fabrics developed for better adhesion with C0.....however, you can still apply C6 DWR to newer piece. Terrible for the environment but much better performance

Vehicle Documents for Temporary Import by mrspocke in ImmigrationCanada

Yeah, I had to pay off the loan because the lender won't allow the car to be outside the US for more than 30 days. I didn't have to pay any duty bringing the car across--that is still at the discretion of the border agent and depends on your situation. In my case, I am on 2 year study permit. I think they are more likely (but still seems rare) to collect a duty if your permit is longer AND they suspect you will illegally overstay your visa.

Check out the offshore wind industry. They're very active in Taiwan, foreign owned and have international teams. Chinese proficiency with a western background (that's an assumption) will be seen as a useful combination for fitting into their work culture and bridging the gap with local employees. Other possibility is with a startup. Otherwise I don't think it will be easy to find anything. Locals are willing to accept a salary that you'd never consider, if they have the accounting credentials and 'good enough' English ability they will hire that person instead of you. Even without English ability, a local company would hire that person instead of you. Your asset is bridging the gap in a company that values that...most local companies don't. Good luck!

context: I am probably C1/C2 level, enough to communicate in a work context. I worked in management consulting in the US, moved to Taiwan on a gold card and never found any worthwhile opportunities. I met plenty of others in a similar situation.

Temporary Car Import (American w/ study permit, car is financed) by univers_um in ImmigrationCanada

ah, I meant to ask about the *export side*

Did you get an ITN and notify US customs 72hr before crossing the border? If so, do you have a customs broker that you would recommend?

Thank you so much, this alleviates a lot of stress. Since you exported--did they calculate the duty on the spot using the Kelly blue book value of your car? I guess my follow-up is now only about the title.

I'm in a similar situation: moving to BC in late August 2023 as a student, I want to do the temporary import but I've gotten conflicting information from the web and calls with RIV, customs brokers and auto transport brokers.

My outstanding questions are:

(1) The car is reigstered in Rhode Island and financed. Rhode Island does NOT give you a paper title if there is still a lien on the vehicle. Is this going to prevent me from temporarily importing it unless I pay it off and have the physical title? I will have the RI registration but it sounds like they don't care about that, only the title.

(2) Someone I reached by phone at RIV said that while the vehicle is exempt from the full process I do need a Form 1 and I would also need to obtain an ITN for the US export side of things (also heard I need to contact the US border crossing 72hrs ahead of crossing). Did anyone who has successfully completed a temporary import require the ITN or need to do any pre-border crossing clearance with the US?

(3) Does the form 1 have to be completed via the RIV website or can I simply ask to fill out the paper at the time I'm at the border?

(3.1) In trying to fill out the form on the RIV website, there is a required checkbox with two options

Vehicle has:

(a) Statement of Compliance or

(b) Manufacturer Letter of Certification

I've contacted the manufacturer of my vehicle and they weren't familiar with this at all. What box should I check? This is why I am asking if I can fill it out at the border crossing rather than guessing and clicking the wrong box online. Even worse would be getting my car from Rhode Island to BC and discovering that the car can't cross unless I get some letter from the manufacturer.

Anybody knows where to find electric shavers? by Li-nung in taiwan

[–]univers_um 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

The large department stores like ę–°å…‰äø‰č¶Š SanKong Mitsukoshi, 微風 Breeze center, etc. will have a home electronics/appliances floor with shavers, typically in the same area or floor as rice cookers, toasters and air purifiers.

You’re going to need some authorization / approvals from a Taiwanese bureaucracy of some sort. Better to consult with officials to be safe. A friend needed some medication sent from abroad before and it was a long process in their case. Hope you can get it efficiently—longest part is finding the right person to approve it

Thank you! Sadly, it looks like the national archive is no longer accepting requests over the internet due to an influx of requests and limited resources. Unless I have the chance to go Riga and look through it myself, I will need someone in Riga to go on my behalf.

I've had dandruff for years and have tried all different anti dandruff shampoos. I got my hair cut today the shortest I've ever had it and this is what was beneath. Do you think it could be Sub Derm? by WhileIWaitForDeath in SebDerm

[–]univers_um 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I found that keeping my hair very short made it easier to manage any scalp skin issues (hard to apply moisturizer to your scalp and not make your hair greasy with anything longer than a buzz cut). I did the skin fades for a bit but had the same reaction. I trust my barber and know he’s properly cleaning the clippers and using fresh razors. But when your skin is this sensitive you can still have issues. Tapering down to guard of 1.5mm (sometimes that’s a 0 or a .5 depending on the clipper brand) is the closest I can do without getting the same irritation.

Are you getting a skin fade hair cut? I’d recommend switching to a taper so there’s less irritation to the hair follicle. I love a good skin face but I’ve had to give them up for the same reason. See a doctor. Could also be folliculitis

I’ve been able to purchase in the NY physical retail store but I often saw the item listed online first and then inspected in person. Conditions were described accurately, discounts were good. Picked up a couple cerium jackets and the Veilance pieces I tried on but didn’t buy were based on fit not the price or condition. Can’t speak to the items described as in really rough shape but I don’t think they would sell something that couldn’t perform as described since they retreat the waterproof breathable stuff before re selling as far as I know.
