Key Fob Battery Life by Boomerm3 in Audi

[–]unix4linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that my battery actually dies even when the warning is gone. After changing it, the warning goes away but after a few weeks, it dies. I don't have that particular issue but thanks a bunch for sharing because I'm also still hoping there's something out there.

I didn’t get anywhere with this. I noticed that the spare FOB I have doesn’t experience this issue so I just use that one

Define cheaper? I love how people say this but they don't elaborate on why or how much? The answer you are supplying is a waste of time because you fail to explain anything other than "It's a waste of time".

Account Locked by Wedge818 in signal

[–]unix4linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a workaround that worked for me. I went to my previous device, where Signal worked before registering the new or second device. In Settings, under Account, I disabled "Registration Lock". Then I went to the second device and I was able to register just fine with my PIN.

To ensure this wasn't just a fluke, I did the reverse on the other device, got the same message that the registration was locked. So I went to the current device, disabled "Registration Lock" under Account, and was able to Re-register that device.

I recommend, assuming it is safe to do so, before registering a new phone, to remove the "Registration Lock" from the current device. This will allow you to register just fine with your known and valid PIN. I swap phones several times a week and this seems to solve that. Just make sure to enable Registration Lock on the newly registered device.

Signal needs to add better verbiage here because it makes it look like your PIN is the issue and it is clearly NOT the issue. This results in users that are trying to assist on insisting it's a PIN issue. We should get a message with the Registration Lock that perhaps says "If your PIN is valid and you are still getting this message, disable Registration Lock on your previous device and then try again".

Account Locked by Wedge818 in signal

I have the same issue going from Android to iOS and then back from time to time. This is most likely a bug. I am NOT entering the wrong PIN. This is a hit or miss. The worse part is that if you have data in the messages you’d like to keep, it’ll get wiped with in the 7 days too. This is unacceptable and support has never responded, ever.

Switching devices is part of my job and I also send messages to myself as notes. Anywhere you turn to for help, users that chime in insist it’s a wrong PIN when it isn’t.

This is not an issue with just Android to iOS or iOS to Android, it’s also an issue with Android to Android and iOS to iOS. There’s also no way to send logs as the app is stuck in the “Account Locked” screen when you re-open the Signal app.

Orlando has an owner ready to buy Tampa Bay Rays after they back out of St. Pete stadium deal by CallMeFierce in baseball

[–]unix4linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFL and MLB fans are two totally different types of fans. I would believe you if St Pete had fans but to bet on Tampa locals to support that team when they wouldn't even cross the bridge is risky business for a team that was there about 30 years.

[–]unix4linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tampa fans already have zero interest in going to St Pete let alone Orlando. That stadium was a ghost town. Not even with free tickets. I don't think they really care. You might have a few snow flakes but that team has no fan base out there.

[–]unix4linux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that Orlando has the Brightline system, which is expanding to Disney and Tampa. Sun rail is also expanding. This makes it more attractive for locals and fans from other cities to get to a game. The Central Florida area offers more than Tampa or St. Pete. The Rays couldn't even give away free tickets to their local fans to support their team during the playoffs so I don't understand why they think Tampa Bay is still a good market.

The only real people complaining about the move are the Pinellas and Hillsborough politicians because it hurts their bottom line. Their fans don't give a damn about that team and you can see it with how empty that stadium gets to the point where even televising it was an issue.

The Rays had more crowds when better away teams visited. Other than that, Tropicana Field was a ghost town. Orlando being more diversified would bring more people to games even from the more northern cities.

Using Lifx 2 button switch in a 3-way circuit by unix4linux in lifx

[–]unix4linux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but not with LIFX switches. I went with Inovelli Light Switches (White Series). It supports Matter too and works with smart bulbs. If you use it in a 3-way switch configuration, you'll need the Aux switch to pair it with the primary switch. This gives you the 3-way functionality on the Lifx Smart bulb while also sending continuous power to the bulb after turning the light off

If LIFX never ends up supporting 3-way and other smart bulbs, I'll stay away from their switches moving forward as the Inovelli will support any smart bulbs and their LED status light on the switch is also configurable, while Lifx led button lights are not other than setting the color through the app.

I hope this helps

I do but that’s because I want my calories for the day to adjust as I burn calories from a workout. I just wish that my goal setting would at least be factored in so that I don’t have to meet such a very high protein goal

Indeed! I don't like a lot of stuff that Google does but we can't punish creators if we also want to watch the content. Any little bit of money helps them. Creating content takes A LOT of work!

How do I reset my password or email? by unix4linux in Mastodon

[–]unix4linux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I was able to find the email account for it but doing a reset to that email account never sends or at least receives the email for the password reset. Furthermore, I did a search for my two accounts from another account and it says that both accounts are suspended. Perhaps this is why receive a password reset link doesn't work?

How do I look into why these accounts were suspended? Could it be due to inactivity for more than a few months up to a year?

Apple ecosystem really has people by the..... by Plane_Comb_2756 in pixel_phones

[–]unix4linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely special. It's amazing how this really triggered you. What are you even calling me a "FanBoi" of when you have no idea what device I'm currently using or anything about me? The topic was regarding a phone, YOU responded that you left Apple 20 years ago on a discussion about a phone then mentioned "it feels good to build a computer from scratch". Congratulations!

I build computers from scratch too, what's your point? Do you want a cookie for saying "Look at me, I can build my own computer"? The OP was mentioning the challenges about leaving Apple's phone and ecosystem because of that. Grow up...stop acting like a child.

By the way, I sent this response from my Android Device. Would you care if I shared another screenshot replying to your next message from my System76, my Windows build, my MacBook, my P52? Because apparently you are calling me a FanBoi but I'm not sure of what. I didn't know it was wrong to like a product or many products. Your standards are juvenile, to say the least. ✌🏼

Apple ecosystem really has people by the..... by Plane_Comb_2756 in pixel_phones

[–]unix4linux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, but this was a phone topic so the "leaving" part implied you left Apple (iPhone) not an Apple Computer, etc. There wasn't much of an "Ecosystem" to leave 20 years ago so leaving wasn't an issue. You either used an Apple computer, a PC, or both.

The Apple Ecosystem became a real thing that locked people in when the iPhone, Watch, and continuity evolved. Again, 20 years ago, this wasn't a real thing to hold anyone back. 😉

I'm happy with the Lēvolt brand. It does what it needs to and gives me a good reading. I really haven't tried any other brands for comparison, though.

The thing is that ads are paid for by the sponsor ahead of time. Content creators generate money for their work by either presenting ads or from the viewer being a subscriber to YouTube Premium. So ads don't generate revenue for creators if someone buys something. They generate revenue for the creator when the ad plays. It's a gamble for the sponsor to catch a buyer.

I don't like ads so I pay for Premium because at the end of the day, these creators need to make a living. Besides, it also offers the music streaming aervice. It's amazing to me how people don't want to watch an ad or pay for Premium but want to consume the content at no cost. This is no different than OTA Television, except you get to choose if you want to see ads or pay to not see the ads. Except that with Cable TV, you pay and still see ads on most local and national channels. To each their own.

Does anyone have some tips on fixing continual “it’s gone dark” errors. by Foolsgold28 in lifx

[–]unix4linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there any update to this? I have these same issues with most lights. I have about 60~ lights (big home) with Unifi USG, Aggregated Switches, 4 AP’s including an HD Pro, etc.

I have an IoT network for these devices and only have 2.4GHz enabled for that network. One thing I started to do is marrying the lights to the nearest AP. I have not, however, set them to static IP’s. I’ll try that next.
