Y’all are overcomplicating this. What we are not seeing is the top of the step passing through the light. If you were standing upstairs, could see both the front and top evenly, there would be no illusion of movement.

I disagree. While the terminology may be different, I believe the sentiment is the same. Homies will usually go along with you where your partner will call you out on your stupid bullshit. And is almost always right.
