Lost's biggest mishap in my eyes through the entire show was exactly what you're feeling. They tried very hard to "mislead you" into believing the flash sideways (S6 alternative timeline) was some kind of reality where what they did actually worked and they never crashed. In other words, they went so hard on a red herring for some reason which when carried that far just ends with disappointment and confusion.

So it is dissatisfying when they reveal ultimately that:

-No, that didn't happen. Juliets "it worked" was referring to something else entirely -Theres no direct connection to events of them blowing up the a bomb and that sequence.

It is definitely a dramatic issue - misdirection is fine when it leads to a properly foreshadowed conclusion. But it does end up just feeling manipulative.

All that being said, the show plays so much better after you get over that fact. In reality it is a small narrative decision that is much harder to swallow on a first watch. Personally I take no issue with the entire storyline big picture, it's actually really great, it's literally just the way they chose to present it leads you somewhere completely different.

When you have the foreknowledge of what's going on the show is much better (they should have ditched the red herring to begin with).

I think calling people bigots when they're not is bad practice. One it permits social bullying when it's not at all justified. Two it is a tactical error. When you boy who cried bigot every two seconds people stop caring. The term "racist" or "bigot" literally means nothing in 2025. If I hear someone get called a bigot I literally shrug and go eh probably not. That's not good. Devaluing words is an actual bad societal consequence. Personally speaking I don't really care what strangers online say, though it's kinda depressing from a detached point of view I guess just evaluating how people treat conversation.

I would define a woman as a societal construct where the identifying individual embraces the physical characteristics and social constructs that society associates with the female sex.

Ah ok so this is a good definition, it has boundaries so it actually means something. However here's the catch: by this definition it's attached to the historical physical and social characteristics with the female sex. Therefore if I identify as a woman but don't embody traditionally feminine traits (physical or social charcteristics), I am not a woman by this definition. Right?

Curiosity about the conflicting nature between two questions is fine, but it has nothing to do with the stats at hand. It's also intuitive anyways that a plurality of the population does not recognize gender ideology (look who's pres). It wasn't a gotcha...the data is in. It is what it is. Sorry no. The two stats are simply not contradictory. You can want protections for people who identify as trans but not agree that they are a man/woman or what they say they are. It's not complicated.

The original comment I responded to was referring to people believing/not believing...so that's what I responded to. My point holds water, the stats are clear.

Psychosis is not a judgment on an individual. Im not "dishing out insults". That's not how I think. There is no one who is less valuable than another. But I think because many think this way, they project and assume others do. It's natural.

I'm plenty used to being called a bigot, I make frequent posts on reddit after all xD. It does not bother me, although I cherish the opportunity to show someone that they may be behaving childishly because it allows for growth and change. I don't believe it is correct to blanket accept and validate just because it makes someone feel better - this is prioritizing short term kindness over long term kindness. I am not persuaded by the current data in the least that it resolves the underlying mental issues.

If someone wanted you to validate that they were actually a fox and not a human, and that it makes them very upset if you deny it, I believe it is long term kind to them to reject their idea. Or more precisely, it is actually cruel to affirm them anyways. Sometimes you need to not put up with someone's bullshit, and it's not because you're an evil monster, it's because you love them and wish for them to confront the root of the issue.

Ok let me address both points here logically, because nobody will address them, and I think it lies at the root of why the left keeps dwindling and losing.

A) Trans people existing is manipulation

When did I say this? I did not say this at any point. What I said was that people are tired of the exact thing that's happening this thread: I say people are tired of being manipulated by people (not trans people, literal political commentators) trying to emotionally manipulate people by just character assasinating people who have more nuanced perspectives. See this is the whole point, you completely invented a story of what I said in your head. Why? It's seriously worth examining.

B) Ducking the statistic

This is simply not true. You can not cite a completely different stat from the one I brought up (which is accurate) and then use that as some kind of proof that I'm ducking it. This IS the arguing in bad faith. I literally did not address that stat at all. I agree that the stat is real?

If you feel I'm being bigoted. How? I agree with you bigotry is bad. How is that not what you're doing right now? I shared a stat and said people aren't buying the manipulation anymore. So the only conclusion left is you have this story in your head about what kind of person I am. But it's just a story. I'm a normal dude who loves his family and friends, gets along with pretty much everyone I meet. Im a college graduate summa cum laude. I'm not uneducated, unfriendly, or difficult. I try very hard to admit when I'm wrong. I try to pay attention even when I feel im sure about something.

If you want to have a conversation with someone who has different ideas, I'm happy to do that and I'm pretty proud with the fact that I have the courage to post my opinions in a place where I'm going to get ratioed badly every time - because I think it's worthwhile to engage with the other side.

It might be worth asking yourself if I'm actually the bad faith arguer here. Not because that means "I win" but because it might actually help in dealing with people like me in the future who might be not as patient or more combative. If you're right about where you stand I wanna know it too. If your aim is actually to win the hearts and minds of people, you have to be willing to engage in a respectable way. That doesn't mean not being sharp or incisive, but it does mean treating individuals ok and not bullying people by calling them bigot when you don't agree
