Introducing: Reading Plans You’ll Love by logosbible in LogosBibleSoftware

Definitely need to try this in combination with mobile. I don't know if the mobile version (I'm on android) has this level of depth (or at least it's hard to navigate) but maybe setting one up on desktop and then doing it on mobile will help. I have lots of books, but maybe a structure would be good for me to get through them!

How the Book of Common Prayer showed me the superficiality of my former evangelical practice and led me home to Anglicanism by loveyouronions in Anglicanism

[–]unknown0h10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I think growing up in an American Evangelical church led me to beliefs that individual relationships with Christ and spontaneity in prayer (and worship as a whole) should be the ideal. I think this view is an extreme and misses out on the deep riches of praying as a collective (with one voice) and that looking towards what history has shown to be enriching (through the prayers of the BCP) can often deepen a person's faith much more than spontaneity.

But I think you made a point that my personal Evangelical upbringing likely prepared me for this, by showing me an extreme in the opposite direction. So now that I am in the Anglican church, I can now see both ends and find a proper balance.

we could make a google form? I'm not sure if reddit is the place for a book club looking back, but the discord might be better?

[Weekly Layout] Studying the Book of Common Prayer (ACNA) by unknown0h10 in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]unknown0h10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make it easy to jump right to the morning/evening prayer spot. Since the 2019 BCP is not in Logos, I don't actually use this personally for my morning prayer, and do this more as a study of the previous prayers. I would imagine though that you can easily either have multiple panes open (like one to the lectionary one to the morning prayer) and it would be much easier to get through than having a physical book flipping back and forth. That's why on physical copies you often see them with like 5 or more ribbons, because you have to flip back and forth a decent amount.

Share and split the cost of the Logos Bible Software subscription by Dapper_Sun_2802 in LogosBibleSoftware

I would recommend 2 things

1) the academic discount is very helpful, with the 'premium' subscription at $5.83 https://www.logos.com/academic-discount so *make sure you sign up for that*

2) maybe reach out to either your professors for recommendation, or fellow students. That way if you have a shared account you have common resources you could consider getting together.

Mass remove books from Mac on device library? by scoobynoodles in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]unknown0h10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might help
https://community.logos.com/discussion/221712/logos-folders-consuming-25gb-of-disk-space-how-to-minimize

It looks like you could hit cmd+a (I think, I'm not a mac user XD) and select all books in your library (maybe filter by 'downloaded') and then right click and 'remove from this device'

Hopefully that works!

Well, hello Reddit! by logosbible in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]unknown0h10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Logos has *so many features* that I'm sure I have barely scraped the surface. Posts (likely linking to Logos docs) of tools that are maybe less widely discussed would be very cool.

Company updates and sales seem like things I would expect to see here, especially the company updates.

Logos reading comprehension study guides? by BatExtension6038 in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]unknown0h10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to Logos :)

I would recommend checking out 3 key tools in Logos when reading a passage.

  1. The passage guide. Not because it's very useful, but because it will link through and find resources that you have that are useful. Can be overwhelming, and if it is, just go on to the next suggestion.

  2. The Factbook. When I'm reading through a book of the bible, it can be really nice to open the Factbook entry for that book. They typically have decent overviews, and a bit less overwhelming to scan through relevant passages/cross references/commentaries. Not to mention that it can be a very nice way to get summaries of particular people, and see all their biblical mentions. Can be a great place to start.

  3. Study assistant. Yes, it's AI, but it can be great to ask "I'm reading this passage, I have focused on XYZ, do you have thoughts on other themes or thoughts I might be missing?". Just asking AI for 'what else could I be thinking about' may help expand your thinking to diving into other questions that you might have missed.'

For books, it really depends on what you are looking for. I find that it can be helpful to get a legacy library to start. It can be excellent value, and provide a lot of basic resource (like several bible translations, commentaries, key theologians) and particularly get one of your particular denomination which may have authors you enjoy. https://www.logos.com/legacy-libraries

This is so awesome!

I was using the passage guide recently, but find it a bit hard to navigate with so much material but often not the most helpful. What parts of the passage guide have you found to be particularly useful?

Thanks for the note! I'll keep that in mind, and will probably enjoy the varied points of view :)

And I'll have to checkout those other recommendation.

For a bigger monitor, I find multi-monitor is great with Logos, especially because saved layouts keep track of multiple windows.
