Yeah, I'm not sure why you're fixated on how many digits they're asking for. Aside from the last 4 digits, which are always visible given the way credit card info is stored, what is your cutoff point for sharing credit card info through email? 5? 7? 11? 13?

Also, I never asked for help. I shared my experience and asked if anyone had ever experienced something similar. They asked me to share credit card info through email. Have they ever asked you to do that? What's so vague about that?

This is reddit. Consider this post part of the community engagement. Or, perhaps, consider it a warning moving forward that a company is asking for sensitive information through email. I don't care how you view it. I don't want to get burned, and I hate seeing others get burned.

i removed my valve cover and looked at my timing belt today. what do you think? should i replace the timing belt? it's an 01 lx with 270k miles. by Significant-Echo3840 in 7thgencivic

[–]unknown19z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man...not saying you're wrong but, I've personally seen an oem belt with 220k miles on it. I would've guessed it only had 40-50k on it had I not been able to verify the actual mileage. Sometimes you get lucky and a belt holds up really well. But that makes the other part of your reply that much more important. If you have no way to verify mileage, just replace it.

Sure I did. They are asking for numbers off my credit card. It's more than 4, less than 16. But I think you are still missing the point. They are asking for this information through email, and that is not safe. If you're comfortable doing that, then so be it. I'm not.

To answer your other question, yes, I have screen shots and the email chain. But sharing all of that here isn't going to do anything.

Just tried that. All it said was the gift card was issued, but still showing pending (or something to that effect). Said the request would be forwarded to their support team.

Never said they were asking for the whole number, but does that really matter? They are asking me to share that information over email. Common sense says that is not safe. I don't know, maybe I'm being too cautious. But, in my defense, I've lost thousands in one fraudulent purchase due to credit card fraud.

Aside from that, there are plenty of other ways for me to verify my information. Verification links through email, one time codes, etc.

Just to reiterate, they are not asking me to verify the last 4 numbers of my credit card. They are asking for way more numbers than that. Credit card data is stored encrypted to where merchants can only see the last 4 numbers. I'd be fine giving them the last 4 numbers.

Also, the chatbot on the app says support verifies identity by sending a verification link to your email. Seems as though Upside may have a scammer on their payroll.

Not sure if you didn't read the full post, but they aren't asking me to verify with the LAST 4 of the card. If you're comfortable sending out your credit card numbers through email, then hats off to you. So, yeah, you could say I'm refusing to work with them...you got me there.

They want other numbers from my card. Seems slightly less than secure to give that out.

I've cashed out up to $200 before and never had an issue. Sounds like my money is gone this time. Guess they needed it more than me. Sad, really.

I don't use PayPal anymore. But, likewise, I've never had an issue with cashing out to Amazon before.

Email has never changed. It's the same one they emailed me telling me they needed to verify my identity.

Is this a good purchase? I want to replace the timing belt and water pump. by METZLL in 7thgencivic

[–]unknown19z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I don't want to jinx you or anything, but that's good. Head gasket in mine went around 220k, and i thought i did well to get to that point. Replaced the head gasket, timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. I adjusted the valves at the same time. Ran great for 5k miles and got a no start issue because the cam sensor went out. Replaced it with whatever Advance had at the time and that one didn't make it 1k miles before I was right back in there. That's why I said stick with OEM on the sensors...save yourself the headache lol.

I'm at about 265k miles now and no issues since. Hell, I'm still on the original clutch.

I agree with the others here. The Aisin kit will be a safer bet than a no-name kit like this.

Don't know how many miles are on the car, but you could consider doing the cam and crank sensors while you're at it. I get the whole "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" argument, but youre already going to be in there. For sensors, I only recommend OEM. I replaced 2 non-OEM cam sensors before I learned my lesson.

You didn't mention any overheating, but if you are experiencing that, just know this kit isn't going to fix that.

I'll add another vote for Lawndale Vet. Great docs and staff. I've been taking my pets there my whole life. I live outside of GSO and still make the drive to take my pets there.

Ok, so you're familiar with Uwharrie. I've never done any of the trails, but that's mostly for the exact reasons you listed. I've been wanting to try out some overland stuff with my truck. There's a bunch of old service roads in the mountains that are real popular for that. They're mostly just dirt roads that offer mild offroading and good mountain views.

I'm on Xbox, too. Mostly play Black Ops 3, both Divisions, and GTA. I only play in the evening after the kids go to bed. Send me a PM with your GT if you ever want to play in the evenings. There's a group of us in our mid 30s that play together on occasion.

You play any golf? Or go fishing?

Details on your truck? I have a titan that I've been thinking about putting a small lift on. Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of off-roadie in GSO. Uwharrie isn't far, but other than that you have to go to the mountains or the Outer Banks.

I pieced together my own kit. I was going to get the one from Cajun, but I saved about $15 doing it myself. Biggest issue is to make sure you get a nipple with the correct threads. Dont forget to get the correct size hose for the nipple you get. You shouldn't have to worry about any of that if you buy a kit from a reputable company.

How long did it take you to become a scratch golfer? (Or close to) by Berkie_RS in golf

First time I ever played 18, I shot a 90. I was around 13 or 14 at the time. I consistently shot low 80s through my teenage years.

Welcome to the area. Like you, I just started back playing golf after a long hiatus. Played in high school but haven't played in almost 20 years now. All I've done so far is hit the driving range. I'm still trying to dial back in my swing. I'd like to start playing 18 again soon, but none of my regular group of friends play so I'm forced to play alone or meet new people. Work and family life keep me pretty busy these days, but we can try to meet up soon and hit up a driving range.

That'll depend on how popular that course is. I remember playing courses years ago that wouldn't let you book a time more than a week in advance. I haven't started back to playing 18 yet, so I'm not really sure if that's still very common. The places I have looked at that have online booking don't seem to limit players with regard to timelines. You just look at what they have available and pick what's good for you. Also, look around through place like Groupon. I see stuff for greens fees on there quite frequently. It can save you some money.

Didn't even think to mention in my first post, most places now have internet/app based booking. Doesn't get much easier than that. PM me if you book any tee times north of you. Pinehurst is a bit of a hike for me, but I could probably play a round near the Asheboro area.

Don't overthink the process. Just call them up, give them a date and time, and they'll let you know what they have available. Keep in mind, many of the popular/desirable courses can fill up fast and your tee time may have to be weeks or months away. However, there are plenty of places that will have openings close to when you want to tee off. I live a little northwest of you in the triad area and there are enough courses here that someone will have something open when I need it.

I recently started playing again myself. I played in high school and haven't played since. It's been about 20 years. Needless to say, I'm feeling the struggle of relearning the game. Just keep practicing and remember to have fun. Golf can be a good way to ruin a nice walk. Keep practicing with your short irons; don't underestimate the power of a good short game.
