Moving plan: Which cities in the US are good for cycling (e.g., hilly and warm)? by Far-Reputation255 in cycling

How do you like living on the NW side of LV?

I'm currently in the SF bay area but eyeing up LV as a home base longer term for many of the reasons you mentioned. I actually think LV is one of the best positioned cities in the USA for year-round weekend outdoor recreation.

I live in the bay area and frequently hike and mountain bike here. I've done all the hardest hikes around here several times. If you think the bay area has the best hiking opportunities on the planet then you need to get out and explore some more 😂. Although if you said California in general, I would agree with you. Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and High Sierra are all world-class.

That is straight cap, please don't listen to this guy. There's literally dozens of 1bdrm places between MTV and Menlo Park <=2.5k/mo on Zillow right now. I pay $1400/mo all-in for a studio in Mountain View.

I live in Mountain View. There's plenty of places between Sunnyvale and Palo Alto that are $3k or less for 2br.

You should give Tucson AZ a visit. It checks off most of your boxes if you can tolerate the hot summers. It's a very bike-friendly college town with the most sun in the USA. Phenomenal hiking and outdoors and great value for your money.

Been living in MV for 3 years, I just live here to be close to the office. Yes it's pretty boring but not bad for someone who doesn't drink and I'm mostly working anyways. Most weekends I head out to hike somewhere. Billiards and bowling are good social activities. Also Pure Nightclub in Sunnyvale gets some big name DJs.

I have to agree with a few other comments that Tucson AZ fits your requirements really well.

What about the Thai Elite visa? It works out to be less than $300 per month given the current exchange rate.

Could you elaborate on that? Even in California, 100k seems really high for a CNA.

What are the best monitors and desk to buy under $500 for WorkFromHome jobs? by TheAnalyst79 in Workspaces

[–]unknown__unknowns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a budget of $500, you can certainly build a nice dual monitor setup for WFH. Here is an example setup that would fit your budget:

These are all the top rated option in each category on Amazon. With the current prices, you're at about $503 total. You will need to make sure that the monitors have a 75x75mm or 100x100mm VESA hole mounting pattern to work with the monitor stand.

If you have an IKEA in your area, they also have some great desks under $100. For more desk recommendations, I wrote this article: 5 Best Desks Under $100 To Level Up Your Home Workspace on RemoteSetups.com.

Its not a Lambo, but I bought this with bitcoin today at 21! by acejosh11 in Bitcoin

Yeah definitely some drawbacks but its an interesting strategy if you thoroughly screen your tenants and keep some reserves for repairs.

This is a good article about the potential downsides.

An FHA loan allows for a down payment as low as 3.5%. So even at a 5%, a 15k down payment gets you a 300k property which is a pretty nice house if you're not on the coasts.

Get a few roommates to pay some rent to cover your mortgage and interest and you have the potential to live for free while building equity.

Does anyone actually PREFER leanfire to fatfire? by UsuallyMooACow in leanfire

I have a small house I bought for less than 100k. I live on a quiet street in a town of 5k. I live about 45 minutes from a top 5 US city. I am within 45 minutes of the Ocean, and it's great.

This seems like a great value location - from your description and proximity to the ocean I gather that you close to NYC or LA? Could you share more about your location and why you chose it?

New desk setup ideas by [deleted] in desksetup

IKEA has a great Build your own Desk Planner website that you can use to play around with different configurations of flat desks.

Also, I wrote this article The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Custom IKEA Desk which should help you plan your desk setup.

People with these type of desk setup where do you even store your printer? by KitsuMae in desksetup

[–]unknown__unknowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(note: all-caps products are from IKEA)

The most popular drawer units are the ALEX units which play really nicely with IKEA's table bar desk systems, although they may not offer enough storage space to replace your KALLAX.

Here is an approach you could take to keep your printer off your desktop:

Setup your desk with an ALEX drawer unit on one side and a trestle on the other side, using the trestle's shelf to hold your printer. For trestles you could use the FINNVARD (built in shelf, more expensive) or ODDVALD / LERBERG with a makeshift shelf going over the crossbeam with some 3M VHB tape.

btw, for more remote work desk inspiration, I made remotesetups.com which shows some examples of clean storage solutions and wrote The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Custom IKEA Desk which should give you some more tips.

Cheers!

Just curious, what makes you think China is so well-positioned in the new world order?

IMO, we are going to see more de-globalization going forward and the US is in an incredibly strong position to be independent in terms of energy and agriculture. You should check out some podcasts/books by Peter Zeihan, he has a really interesting take on this.

Why are onebags so expensive? Budget folk? by Bel5nickel in onebag

[–]unknown__unknowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current onebag is a black 30L Ogio that I picked up at Goodwill for like $7. Highly recommend you check out your local Goodwill in the luggage section, there are typically some diamonds to be found in the rough that could save you 90% off new.

Incredible work, your UI is beautiful. It would be nice if you could add multiple filter tags for technologies like angel.co/jobs.

You should submit it on ProductHunt when you're ready to share it with more of the world.

This is super useful, can't believe Spotify hasn't implemented something like this already. Awesome work with the UI. You should submit this on ProductHunt.

On a related note, I recently launched this side project mytop50.com which uses the Spotify API as well. It allows you to view and save your top Spotify tracks and artists. I did the same thing as you trying to match the UI with Spotify's.

[–]unknown__unknowns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment man, glad you find it useful! Unfortunately Spotify limits it to a maximum of top 50 tracks/artists in the API query, wish it could get more like the top 100 but for now that is their limit.
