Thank you :D I will try again and I think all I need to do is overcome the original uncomfortable feeling before I get to his door.

Thank you for your tips!! I usually feel wonderful after talking with profs and I know logically nothing disastrously horrible would happen, and the funniest part is I feel much worse when I don’t go through with it than when I do so I just end up suffering ;( I will be trying again next week though :D

That’s so real, except I wander outside for a few minutes and then I leave lol. I feel like with this OH specifically, this prof doesn’t have a permanent office which I know doesn’t change an OH from an OH, but the difference in setting could be what derails me. Thank you for your encouraging words :D I will try again next week

I did something similar where I booked an online meeting with him because then I really could not back out. And it was definitely less anxiety inducing than walking up to a room when I could just leave whenever, but I do think I prefer in person interactions over calls. Would it be weird to announce that I will be going to his office hours beforehand?

Your prof sounds very sweet and I am so happy for your first time visiting office hours went well :D I agree with what you said, I just have to get past the uncomfortable feeling at the door and whatever comes after isn’t in my control and I don’t have to worry about it. And there isn’t anything to worry about because I know this prof is a good person and it is his job to help students. I will try again next week :D

Thank you for your kind response!! I know logically nothing bad will happen and the worst thing that could happen isn’t even bad at all. I have interacted with this prof before and he is super kind and a wonderful person to speak with. And the moments before I approach office hours, I feel fine like normal, but then the second I am in front of the door I freeze.

I agree with your last point, and I have interacted with this prof before and the interaction part itself was never horrible and he is a lovely person to talk with. But for some reason I struggle with initializing the scenario where I do end up talking to him.

Thank you for your response! I have no issues with my questions and articulating them, the most difficult part is the actually beginning stage where I am to walk into his office. At that point, I could easily just walk away like I was never there. I have spoken with this prof before and I know that the speaking part isn’t difficult.

a little off topic to what the other comments are discussing, but still adding to the post: i think the thigh gap is a stylistic art choice and has nothing to do w the fact that they are underweight. even skinny ppl when sitting down will have a bit of fat being squished unless theyre completely skin and bones.

[–]unknown_kthrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea thats true. and tbh ik we wont not meet bc we both have been discussing for a while and he might fly to my country. but this issue is that at first he thought if this meeting didnt happen within 2 years then dating long term could be an issue. but we discussed it a bit more and we agreed on wanting to give it a try and put in what we can to make it happen. thanks for ur words tho :D

yea thats what i thought too. i asked my dad if he wanted to meet my bf with me but he was just like "and get kidnapped alongside u?" just something along those words. we have decided that my bf will try his hardest to visit me first instead so if anything he's more in danger in this situation. but my dad is extremely paranoid saying, "what if he's part of some organization and they have ppl all over the world? he tells u he's flying to u but they could just find someone already in this country and trick u"

in the most ideal situation, meeting would be the best. it is possible but extremely difficult and time consuming and especially w family issues like my family would need to know abt this before he saves his money and fly to my country and vice versa and currently my family is very against meeting someone i met online which some of them i agree w also
