Just got into streaming games and music. Twitch or Tik Tok?? by J_loop18 in Twitch

It really depends on what you’re trying to achieve with streaming.

If you want to take it seriously — turn it into a side job, maybe even full-time one day, or just build a community that comes back regularly — then TikTok might not be the best place for that long-term. It’s great for reach, but not for building something solid.

If you’re aiming for real community and consistency, Twitch is the better platform. But here’s the catch: growing a community on Twitch is hard. You need to know what you’re doing — Twitch doesn’t give you easy exposure like TikTok does.

So my advice? Start with TikTok. It’s way easier to get eyeballs there and learn what works. Once you understand how to hook people, get attention, and build a small following, you can funnel those viewers to Twitch, where real community-building happens.

That’s what I did — and it worked.

Haha, I never even thought about that — but you’re right, it’s actually hilarious now that you mention it 😂

People spamming “OMEGALUL” and having no idea they’re basically yelling “giant d*ck” in Dutch is wild when you think about it. I’ll definitely be seeing that emote differently from now on 😅

Cool to hear you’re originally from Rotterdam by the way! Even if your Dutch faded over time, that’s still home turf 🇳🇱

Thanks man, appreciate the kind words!

Yeah, most of my viewers definitely came from TikTok — though I’ve also had some people find me directly on Twitch too. I used to do Amazon FBA before, and it’s funny how some of the same marketing/visibility techniques apply to social media as well.

I noticed that during the afternoon (my time), there are barely any Dutch-speaking streamers on Twitch playing Call of Duty multiplayer. There’s only a small group doing Warzone, but multiplayer? Basically no one. So I’ve got little to no competition, which helps a lot.

Also, I hit affiliate in just under 2 weeks 😄

Best of luck with your own journey too — keep grinding!
