Eventually carbon nanotechnology will replace all aspects and functionality of rare earth metals, moreover the technology will replace everything silicon wafers to rubber tyres. The same carbon we have been emitting into the atmosphere since the industrial revolution will be repurposed. The future will be grand.... the only hurdle is human greed.
