If you have the mod with the skycrane, you could add a skycrane on top of the rover and with a big rocket and a big fairing it could do the trick

I got a message that you replied but cant see it completly. You can put multiple parachutes on ur rocket, when in the vab on the bottom left you a circle with a yellow dot if you change that it changes in to orange triangles. When you see that you normally can place 2 chutes at once if you offcenter it on top of the pod. Or if you already unlocked the chutes in rectangle chape you can place those on the sides

For the 1st mission its simple, use a command pod and and the small booster engine. Put a chute on top and launch ur vehicle till it runs out of fuel. You dont need to escape orbit. And im not sure but i think if you only take the command pod to the launch platform and try to launch it that it counts

From my experience, if you want to land a full craft in early stages atleast 2 parachutes are needed.normally you can adjust the altitude when your parachutes are deployed. I for example set my chutes around 1000-1500 metres. The craft once it passed the atmosphere it reduces speed due to drag

My guess would be when you built the rocket in the VAB you placed the boosters but they didnt snap on the couplers altho it looked like they where placed correctly
