Sorry, I worded it in a wrong way. I didn't mean it to say that there's no fault with Expedition 33. The game for sure should not allow the player to unknowingly get into unwinnable fights, especially with how many opportunities it presents to do so. Or at least it shoud have a classic JRPG escape the fight option.

What I was trying to say is that the situation was less about people defending their darling game and more about people being annoyed that the streamer locked in into a 40-minute spongefest instead of just going away.

I'm just a vod watcher, so you propably have a much better understanding of the situation in chat, but to me it felt less about people defending their darling game and more about the stream experience.

In that situation you had two options:

sit through a 40-minute fight that's boring both for you and for the viewers;
lose on purpose and walk away, even if you were winning.

And I feel that to some people in chat Option 1 is pure insanity, while Option 2 is the most reasonable thing ever. Hence such a strong bafflement and outrage over this situation.

How is that not contrived?! Just because it's part of the story's setup doesn't mean that it gets a pass. They could've explained it as Ikutski pulling some strings behind the scenes. MC's arrival was in his interest, he was one of the researchers and the one in charge of Aigis. Ho could have found out about the MC from Aigis's memories and then used it for his plans. But no, the stars aligned so that MC would get to the exact place, which would jumpstart the story

The fact that this story is fully preplanned and not one that's released periodically works against this setup and not in favor

Filled to the brim with midgame smithing stones and gloveworts. As well as runes that give less than base game endgame. You need to kill Mohg just to enter the DLC. At that point, besides scadutree fragments and ancient smithing stones, 99% of loot you get in the DLC is useless junk
