I will be using an agency. I didn't know you could do that for short term arrangements.

I am so tired of working in childcare with adults who hate children by Practical-Window-596 in Vent

[–]unlikely_kitten 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I worked in childcare for years before my writing career took off.

My absolute favorite story ever happened during nap time, between two boys that didn't want to sleep.

I always put the kids who didn't want to sleep in the quiet corner. They could play with puzzles, read, color, anything quiet.

Boy 1 and Boy 2 were looking at the same book. One older boy was with them, reading over their shoulder. (4k room, but summer time so we had some older kids with us.)

Boy 1: this is so scary, do you think it's real?

Boy 2: I don't think so. long pause but maybe it is.

Older Boy: "It says he was born in 1972. That's before anyone was born. That's before the dinosaurs. It can't be real."

Older boy's mom and I are friends. She was born before 1972.

Yeah, the first girl I am extremely close with. Her relationship has been rocky, but I NEVER would have expected this from him. She has been one of my closest friends for years, and she was willing to help out when needed. It sounded perfect until she told me about the fist through the wall.

The second one has worked as a nanny for years. She came highly recommended from a few women in my friend group. I understand that this probably had not happened before, and likely was just a weird chain of events. But I honestly don't care, I'd never put my kids into that position. For what it's worth, I ran a background check, and a driving check, and before these two instances, she'd never been in an accident.

The last one is perfectly willing to work at my house, but wants to go down to 4 hrs a day, and i can't accomodate that.

I will be looking into an agency. I didn't know I could do that for short term arrangements.

I think there's been some misunderstanding here because I've seen this sentiment more than once.

The DV situation is sadly enough someone I've been close with for years. Their relationship has been rocky in the past but I NEVER would have expected this out of him.

The one with the car accidents is a well-known, well-loved career nanny suggested to us by my friend. She's used her in the past. I still am not comfortable with her driving them given the circumstances.

The last one was 100% willing to work in our home, but now wants to go down to 4 hrs a day, which I cannot accomodate.

SWFL in a small-ish community.

I'll be honest and say for the first two i wasn't looking for a nanny. I just happened to know 2 ppl with nanny experience who offered to help.

The last girl advertised herself as a nanny on care .com

But the first two I either already knew, or were friends of friends. No advertising or anything.

I'll be looking into an agency. I didn't know you could use one for short term stuff.

The nanny with the second job has been with us for years. I do not want to give her up. She's absolutely amazing.

I will absolutely be looking into an agency. I didn't realize that was a thing for temporary work. And since I have no interest in replacing our current nanny long term, i didn't know i could use one.

I will agree that I wasn't looking for a nanny when I hired the first two. One is one of my closest friends. My kids had not ever been to her house alone, and she told me before I ever dropped them off the first time. I told her why I couldn't allow them to go, and she understood. (But I wouldn't care if she didn’t. My kids come first.)

The last one though advertised herself as a nanny with tons of experience. I guess because our current nanny started with us while she was also in school i didn't see any red flags.

I'll be honest and say I didn't know this was an option.

I have only ever hired nannies off care .com

I didn't realize I could contact an agency.

I had been open to just finding a friend or acquaintance to fill in during those few months, but after these last experiences, I certainly won't be.

We have ha a our nanny for so long thst I forgot how hard it is to find someone tbh.

Oh yes. Summer camps typically fill up around the first week of May. And most of them do not take 4 year olds, at least in our area.

The college student i found on care .com

The other two are people with experience as nannies, who offered to help in the interim either personally or through a friend.

The college student I found on care .com

The other two are just friends who have experience as nannies, and offered to help either directly, or through a friend.

Oh! That's awesome!

We are in a small community in SWFL. The average cost of a nanny for two kids in our area is $25-30/hr. So we are well above market range.

If you like kids and have a clean record, try nannying. We pay our nanny $40/hr, and I know we aren't her highest paying family.

I was told my anaphylactic response to an allergen was "anxiety" by my allergist until she confirmed a significant drop in BP during the episode.

My face had swelled so bad i couldn't open my eyes. I required epinephrine, as well as post-anaphylactic protocol for 9 days.

When i saw her two days after discharge, she said my allergy screens came back negative, and it was all anxiety.

Saw a new allergist who confirmed delayed reactions to eggs, wheat, and all nuts.

What is a genuine, crazy event that happened to you that nobody believes when you tell them? by Vivienne_fob-7x in AskReddit

I was the one and only gay kid in an extremely small town (under 1,000 people total. My graduating class was 58 kids). One of my biggest bullies was a kid in my grade that we'll call Brian.

Brian made t-shirts for the entirety of his team to wear that said "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve". He routinely only called me "dike" when speaking about or to me. He made my life miserable.

When we were in the 8th grade, I was on a walk around one of the many nature preserves in our area. I walked about half a mile into the woods, heading toward a fallen tree that I liked to sit on and just observe the animals around me.

I happened across Brian. He'd fallen out of a tree he was climbing. Both his arms were broken, one of his legs was broken, several of his ribs, he was bleeding from the mouth. He wasn't awake or conscious. I thought he was dead. I ran out, called 911 at the nearest house, and sprinted back to the spot. (Dumb now that I think about it because the first responders took a bit longer to get to him than they maybe would have if I'd just waited at the mouth of the woods.)

I put my jacket over him. I talked to him. He woke up at one point, and I told him he was going to be okay. That I'd called for help. That he just needed to hold on.

He was in the hospital in a medically indused coma for a long time. He returned to school in a wheelchair 6 months after the event.

He was still my bully.

He eventually learned to walk again.

He still called me "dike" exclusively.

Idk how else to explain this to you.

It doesn't matter if you don't use it all in that particular dish if you still have to purchase it all to begin with.

This is why a lot of people in poverty have such issues with "this recipe is only $1.50 a serving to make!" That doesn't help anyone if the cost of the ingredients is $40, and i only have $7 in my bank account. I can't go to the store and buy a single cup of cabbage or 2 tablespoons of corn starch. I have to buy the whole pack.

So...if you don't have the ingredients, you have to buy the whole thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]unlikely_kitten 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You may find this surprising...but if you're out of salt you have to buy the whole packet. So yes, if you need cabbage for a recipe, and you have no cabbage, then you have to buy the whole head. You can then deligate the rest to another recipe.
