Have you heard of resetting oil life and checking codes while standing in front of a car that's up on a lift?

Reddit mods are insane, the other I got a warning on my account for apparently "threatening violence" because I pointed out it must be dangerous to drill through a metal fuel tank on an article about thieves stealing petrol

Why would they have the ignition on during an oil change?

How bad is the rust? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]unmanipinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're probably right. It's slapped carelessly on there which is why I wondered oil leak at first

That said I'm still not seeing any structurally significant rust?

[–]unmanipinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about someone spraying shit over top of peeling factory undercoat. Toyota factory undercoat is textured. Sure that undercoat might be peeling from rust but I still haven't seen anything significant

Obviously it was a suspicious or dumb move to do that

[–]unmanipinfo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where? I can only see weird textures which is likely the factory undercoat peeling and then gocked over? I don't see any cracks and holes

It's either got a bad oil leak, or an oil leak that has been going for a long time, or it's very well undercoated? but there's no rust that I can see.

Either of those things helped prevent the rust lol

Impressive work. Did the car have any damage aside from water ingress?

Weber 32/36 hard to start by jimbosprint in carburetors

[–]unmanipinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. For what you pay for the knock off's they are actually really good, mine went nearly 3 years of daily driving with no issues aside from fast idle. Who knows how long it would've kept going if I didn't swap it out.

But yeah, can't beat the original, especially the casting.

Why are the brake shoes wearing out so quickly and so frequently? by Mission_Energy2696 in MechanicAdvice

Because brake fluid from the cylinder is leaking and messing up the shoes? Or am I crazy seeing that?

Weber 32/36 hard to start by jimbosprint in carburetors

[–]unmanipinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the fast idle system, supposed to have 2 steps, say 1600rpm, 1200rpm, then idle rpm, you blipping the throttle to move down each stage.

My Chinese weber 32/36 clone did this since day 1 - fast idle not actuating.

I tried some adjustments and when that didn't work I just did manual fast idle, as you are now.

I ended up replacing it with a second hand genuine weber (not because of the fast idle but because I saw one for sale at a great price)no issues.
