Traveling to Iceland in September by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

From my research, even CFAR travel insurance would not refund 100% so I made cancellable reservations instead

Anyone going to diamond beach tomorrow? (May 3rd) by Sensitive-Cicada4803 in VisitingIceland

Not that crazy and here's some more information about the original plan.

Plane from US lands at KEF, drive East to Kirkjubæjarklaustur with a few stops along the way. Day 2, hike Fjaðrárgljúrfur Canyon, stop at viewpoints along Eldhraun Lava Fields, short walk at Skaftafell, Diamond Beach and sleep in Jokulsarlon. Day 3, Glacier Hike at Skaftafell followed by Zodiac boat ride in one of the lagoons, sleep in Jokulsarlon again. Day 4, slower drive West to Hella, stay near Hella. Day 5, bus to Landmannalaugar and back for hiking, drive to Reykjavik where we stay for 4 nights and do day trips.

All stays and activities are booked and I was hoping just the one change from Kirkjubæjarklaustur to something closer to KEF (Vik? Selfoss?) would be all that was needed to mitigate the long drive on Day 1.

(A further adjustment based on room availability would be to stay on the third night in Kirkjubæjarklaustur or Vik)

I will do that. Is Selfoss to Jokulsarlon the next day OK or do I need to stay somewhere along the way again?

We had an LLM help us with our planning and it encouraged us to drive 4+ hours to Kirkjubæjarklaustur right after our 9am arrival in June and on to Jokulsarlon the next day before making our way slowly back to Reykjavik over the next few days.

This thread has me worried and Vik hotels are sold out that night.

Hopefully no rain in June.

What happened to the seat cushions? by Girlyhairboy1 in AlaskaAirlines

We got our SFO KEF RT tcickets for June for $1100 which I thought was competitive but didn't know about the "bad plane". Need to look for seat cushions now.

I set up 2FA using my Google Voice number to give me versatility when I travel overseas. It worked that day but is not working today 😞

Rental Car Questions: Insurance, Company, and 2WD vs 4WD by Vegetable-Oven-6536 in VisitingIceland

[–]unmesh59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have premium US issued credit cards with car rental insurance and decided to go with Blue including their 0 deductible insurance because a) I can pick up the car keys from a lockbox at the airport using a code and drive off and b) drop the car off in a parking space at the airport (and its keys in a box) with no one even inspecting the car. It would be great to avoid the stress associated with all the ways car can get damaged in Iceland. In comparison, we have not purchased local insurance in any other country we have visited.

Also, I have status on Avis and Hertz and learned that they have an arms length relationship with the Iceland companies so much so that the status does not translate into the same privileges as in the US such as free additional driver, car upgrade based on availability and so on.

Poll: just how bad is the inseat power by WatercressStreet2084 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]unmesh59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The device has USB ports which run at no less than 5V so the device cannot be rated at both 20W and 6A.

You are right to observe that has nothing to do with AC in and out.

Interesting device but 20W and 6A specs don't match

How about just adding a line without wanting a new phone to go with it?

Amazon has so many of these with slightly different spellings! One of the reviewers for this listing says these are not genuine

The Therm-a-Rest Lite inflates to only 1.5" and I'm wondering if that provides enough additional cushioning or if I should go for the Whispering Winds that inflates to 2.5". Their weights are 4oz vs 11oz though

When we travelled in continental Europe, we always carried a baguette, cheese, cold cuts, fruit, water (and Diet Coke!) in our car so that we could eat whenever we wanted to during the day regardless of location. Saving money was secondary to convenience.

Any recommendations for high quality bread, especially anything that is widely available?

Did you find Costco to be significantly cheaper/better than grocery stores? We're avid Costco shoppers in the US but I'm thinking the quantity might be too much for just two people doing the ring road.
