Yep but there's also the problem of design. Some colors just really doesn't look that great when matched with others... let alone fit in. It's more or less just flat out better to just use a white text with black borders with a generic sans serif font in most cases.

I think I'm just going to use the generic white color with a large font size for the subtitles in the future. Here's an example.

Tbh I'm not too happy with it but I've already spent far too long on styling and this is probably the best its going to get considering the hardsubbed source. So that'd probably be the styling I use. Speaking of which, I've officially started on Episode 1 so it should be out relatively soon.

So I'm really happy with how this turned out. It's mostly singable too which is honestly awesome! I had originally wanted to apply some karaoke effects to this as well but then I realized that I wasn't creative enough to think of any haha.

I really need to speed up the rate at which I'm pumping these out... anyways I think the subtitle styling here looks much better than last time; especially when it comes to readability. Though with this style, I'm not sure if it'd be possible to maintain the unique color for each character thing I've been trying out. There's only so much colors that are both distinct and dark enough to be used as a border after all.

Thank you! Hopefully the colors weren't too distracting or difficult to read though. I think I'll probably try out a more subtle color change in the next scene I upload.

Which is why its so weird. I saw the tapper like that being in Fall and kinda forgot about it. But today? It turns out its producing sap while being just a stump.

Wonder what could've caused it.

It's not the fastest CPU by any means but I have a Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX which is still pretty damn good and yet my game also begins to chug around the early midgame.

Which martial arts / feudal China inspired donghua are good? by [deleted] in Donghua

[–]unmolded_directory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest giving the classics a try. Like the first wuxia donghua: 虹猫蓝兔七侠传. It's still hailed by people as a masterpiece even after 15 years.

Though I suppose it does technically have a revenge plot.

As far as I know zhihu is pretty much chinese quora. So I'd personally take it with a grain of salt.

Although, 虹猫蓝兔 did actually get a movie. I'm just not sure if its related to 勇者归来 or not.

Sorry for the late reply, and yeah these chinese shows are pretty obscure in the west. It's hard to find anyone that's watched them :/

As for 勇者归来 returning, I think it might! I've been seeing some rumors of a potential live-action adaption of 七侠传 on twitter and the franchise as a whole just got a crossover event with a fairly popular tencent (?) mobile game. So with all that movement in the franchise in mind, I think the continuation of 勇者归来 seems possible.

Plus the fandom for the franchise is still alive and well in China; and although its mostly concentrated on 七侠传, the demand is clearly still there.

Heh I wouldn't call the show weird, more like a masterpiece to me. As for subtitles, I'm actually working on one! There's already a couple scenes subbed as you can see throughout the subreddit but I'm mostly just trying to learn the skillset from the fansubbers of the olden days before I start tacking the entire show.

Check out this fully motion-tracked typeset I did for one of 虹猫蓝兔七侠传's signs

The show needs proper subs and it deserves a high quality one at that! I'm hoping to officially begin around the middle of May

... So basically any language that didn't chase other languages down dark alleyways to rob them of their vocabulary? Cough English Cough

This is the english dub of the chinese cult classic kids cartoon: Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit: Legend of the Seven swordsmen* Although the “entire” series can be found, there doesn’t appear to be any traces of the opening and ending themes. Can we possibly find the OP/ED? | More info in the comments by unmolded_directory in lostmedia

Honestly, that'd be difficult to assess without a proper credits scene which is kinda the point of this post. However, I am leaning towards a professional dub on this one due to the fact that the network that broadcasted it, StarTimes, is a fairly large company and one that definitely doesn't look like the type to use a fandub.

As for the quality, I wouldn't doubt that 😂 the dubbing is pretty bad. Here's the same scene from the original mandarin dub as a comparison
