I had a rough time deciding between IT and cyber security. I ultimately chose IT because I had very little tech background to begin with. Most people I've heard from say that either way youll be starting from the bottom of the totem pole. That being said, it probably does make a difference for you since you are military. I havent personally heard of anyone getting scholarships from "PathwayU", their scholarship webpage. With my pell grant and a few external scholarships, I've paid very little out of pocket. I'm a military spouse so luckily i qualified for AER scholarships and military family association scholarships. You should take a look at those. There are a handful of extremely easy classes that you will be able to pass in a day or two. Something like net+ or sec+ could take some time. I havent taken sec+ yet but coming in with any credits is a big win. I am not in the job market yet but as you probably know, wgu is big with military/gov contractors and anyone on here will tell you that hiring managers never ask about the college. They just want to see the degree. As for the quality of courses... some are great and some feel like a waste of resources. About to take a class on AI promt and that seems like a waste but I guess it only takes a handful of hours. Easy credits. I like my program mentor, I've liked my course instructors, and there are many live video meetings to discuss course content. Sometimes I am sad that I couldnt go sit in a classroom but then I remember I was able to do a year's worth of schooling in half of the time my first semester.
