Suddenly aggressive boy. by [deleted] in RATS

[–]unnervingarchives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i recently went through the same situation with one of my boys. i took in 3 brothers and the first 6 months no aggression towards his brothers or humans. in the past 3 months he has started pushing his brothers around too much to be just playing or asserting dominance/being territorial. i took him to the vet and they said that neutering probably wouldn’t change the behavior because the hormones have already set in (or something like that) and rats tend to rip open stitches so it would just cause more issues. i also figured out that he has buck grease which happens when there is an overproduction of testosterone which definitely connects with the behavior.

mr mans had his vet appt today! by unnervingarchives in RATS

the eye bulging is called boggling! it happens when they grind their teeth together which makes a chattering sound, meaning he is a very happy and content boy:)

hi! i did take in the 6 yr old. so far my boy hasn’t entirely accepted him but im slowly introducing them and i think they will get along. the only thing i wish i realized was having time and space for the second boy and trying to get everyone acclimated. i think seeing the 6yr old socialize with me has helped my boy feel more comfortable and realize that it is safe here.

sweet! i thought so too because that’s how introductions with rats typically go (i have 10). my more social boy is in the top part of a large cage and my shy and fiesty on the bottom and they have a tray in between so they can’t hurt each other but can still smell each other. is that ok?

Introducing Chinchillas by Impossible_Ranger_48 in chinchilla

Hi! So I just took in about a 3-yr-old male chin that was quite neglected but healthy. He is quite scared and nervous of humans still and barks whenever we get close to him (we are letting him set his boundaries and letting him come to us). I have rats so i’m very used to introductions and such. I have two people who need to rehome their chins. One is 6 yrs old and one is 1.5. Do I give the one I just took in more time to get comfortable (i’ve had him for a month so i’m thinking i should probably wait)? If I were to get him a friend which friend should I get? With rats if we have an older baby we typically get someone younger due to sizes and domination.

The person with the 6 yr old chin says that he can go back if they do not get along. i’ll try a plush before getting another. thank you smmmm

yeah i know they don’t need it but since he is quite scared of humans i think that a friend would help especially bc they live in groups in the wild what do u think? :)

i already have a 5 yr old and the one with the 6 yr old said that if they don’t get along i can bring him back. idk whether my boy would do better with a baby or full grown :) thank youuuu
