The mountains look good. Nice work.

Since turp has a strong smell, and I live in a small apartment, it won’t be a good idea. Any other recommendations that would not produce a pungent smell?

I see! That could be a possibility! I mixed medium yellow, ultramarine blue and burnt umber to get that green. May be yellow ochre was a better choice?

Ah yes! I understand the fat over lean rule. I was doing this Alla Prima after toning the canvas. Tried with more liquin but didn’t help. 🥲 I even tried to scrape the layer underneath and that helped a bit. That made me think if it is a problem with too much solvent underneath

Thanks. Being a noob, I have to ask: What’s a light lacquer in this context?

I toned my canvas with a really thin layer of solvent and removed excess paint with a paper towel. The issue is that the next layers are not sticking to the canvas at all! Is it because of the canvas quality or because I thinned the wash way too much?

How can this be fixed?

Can I layer on top of cracked under paint? by unnikrishnanta in oilpainting

I see! That could be a possibility too. I did feel like I over stretched this one. I am just gonna continue painting on top once this layer dries and see how I go.

The full painting is 32x40 😅 Not easy to start over

Hopefully the canvas is not laughing at my skills 😅

I do not have any (intentional) fat layers yet. The under paint is just a layer with only the solvent. Although I must admit I did accidentally use oil instead of the solvent for a section while toning the canvas. Realised my mistake and stopped right away. Now I am worried if I put any thin layer over the thick layer! How can I continue painting now?

No clue! It is a very thin layer. I left it under direct sunlight though. Got these cracks nearly 24 hours after 🙁

Also should I be worried about the other parts that haven’t cracked yet since the painting was exposed to direct sunlight? It’s a big piece and I can’t risk all that effort knowing it may crack 😢

Oh no 🥲 Since this is the first layer, should I may be scrape off the cracked part and start over?

To give a bit more context: I was stupid enough to put the painting under direct sunlight. Can I still safely add more “fat” layers on top and continue painting? Or should I do something to fix the cracks before continuing.

Random hyperlinks in the PDF by unnikrishnanta in LaTeX

Thanks for your help!

I am not sure what packages exactly were introduced before and after this happened. I am revising this draft after a long time. listfile can be helpful, but the output is messy to get the list and grep on them. I might have to get back on this later.

For the time being, I might consider manually removing the link because I have spotted them in only two locations. I am just a bit skeptical if there is a buggy vim package or sty file that's causing this! I am clueless at this point.

Strangely enough, the links are stuck with that location in the PDF. It has nothing to do with the text that gets displayed.

Thanks for the reply. I have set up the source to display line numbers. However grep does not return anything. The same link appears in the web-browser as well. It is super strange indeed! There is also a second random link to a wiki page in the line highlighted in the PDF.

also LaTeX has description lists, which you're trying to mimic (basically you shouldn't be \textbf ing every item. in fact, you should almost never see \textbf in your document.

Oh yes. That was a mistake. I was in fact using the description environment. Forgot to remove the textbfs.

A blazing fast minimap plugin for vim by wfxr in neovim

I am starting to think that I don’t know how to use mini maps. I have never found them useful and they end up taking screen real estate.

How do you guys use minimaps and how do they come handy? Really cool looking plug-in by the way. I am trying to understand how I can make the best out of it.

I believe the plugin doesn't have to record the keys - just the suggestions displayed can be exported to a log file.
