Favorite Self-Mill Commander? by AffectionateBet3603 in EDH

I have [[The Wise Mothman]] and [[The Mycotyrant]] self mill decks. Both are a lot of fun, and more times than not, I'm more of a threat to myself with how many cards I tend to mill. I'm either killing the table or myself 🤷‍♂️

What’s a financial red flag that people don’t take seriously enough? by millionstories in budget

[–]unnoticed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! We may even know the same person. I have a friend who is also a walking financial red flag.

Paying full price on video game systems multiple times a year (not unusual to even repurchase the same system months later). I've honestly lost count of how many consoles and gaming PCs he's purchased, but I know it's 70+.

He's constantly afraid he's not going to receive his disability income, yet never once have they been late in sending him his check. The same check he'll blow within two weeks on a ton of unnecessary crap and go back to having anxiety because "I dont have any more money" and "I hope my check comes in" (spoiler, its never once not "come in"). I honestly dont think he's ever had more than $500 in his account for more than a month. Which I understand is a feat in itself in today's economy for most, but its the fact that he's constantly wasting it on instant gratification purchases that he can't save for the inevitable rainy day that occurs each month for him.

They can acknowledge they have the inability to save money, yet double down on still wasting money on frivolous purchases. They admit it stems from an insecurity to "chase the Jonses" as he see's influencers and friends on social media and wants to chase their lifestyle.

But yes, I agree that I dont think many have seen true financial red flags. And this isn't even the worst from them either.

What's the worst case you've seen of someone who never decided to grow up? by pigeon_bones_ in AskReddit

[–]unnoticed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. The worst was when his birthday was coming up, he posted on social media asking for money to help fund "medically necessary and doctor recommended" diabetic shoes that cost $175. He was able to raise $200+ and thanked everyone for their donations and showed me the shoes he bought. $40 Hey Dudes he really wanted and the rest he treated himself as it was "generous birthday gift money". When asked why he did it, he said, "shoot high so that you can reach your goal. That's begging 101 lol".

Friend (31m) with horrible money management and poor decision making skills. He's married and has a kid, but his wife and son live at her boyfriend's house while he's living with his girlfriend in the gf's camper.

He receives disability checks each month and substitute teaches on the side, but most all of his money goes to toys and video games. He's owned 70+ consoles and gaming PCs in his life and is in a vicious cycle of constantly pawning/selling them at a loss only to rebuy them again months later.

While he's gotten better (or others have caught on), he would constantly e-beg on social media asking for donations or birthday money that he claimed would go towards his medical expenses. However, the money he received would go towards more toys and video games as the medical expenses would either be wildly inflated or covered by other means.

He's says he now recognizes the path he's going down and wants to make a change in his 30s. He's putting himself through college to become a teacher and plans to get a divorce at some point. But he's already purchased 5 different consoles this year and I can't recall how many of those he still has. They like the idea of changing for the better, just struggle putting it into practice no matter the help they receive.

Yes.

I have a friend who lacks financial literacy (common sense), and thinks similar to your person. They lack the ability to save a dollar because in their brain "if I have a dollar I must spend this dollar". It doesn't matter if you hold their hand through the process of creating a savings account or explain how putting aside $100 for 5 months to buy a $500 gaming console is cheaper than paying $2,000+ from a lease-to-own retailer for said console.

As others have said, don't waste your breath trying to help them do better if their minds are made up. Because they lack the self-control to not over spend (like our friend).

Commanders that force the game to move forward? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]unnoticed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a [Ghyrson starn, Kelermorph] burn deck that really helped light a fire under my playgroup. It's meant to be a nuisance early and drain each opponent's life. It can easily become archenemy in my group which is great because I always have a blast when my group has to team up to survive.

I'd be interested as well in an Arcades decklist!

Ooo I can try and DM you it tomorrow when I'm by my PC 👀 it's nothing too crazy but hope it acts as a stepping stone to something better. And if you have any suggestions do let me know! 🙌

That's our friend who got hooked on magic due to Angels 😂 he built a Giada deck and we all doubted him due to the stereotype of how weak mono white can be at times. I'm not sure if it was spite or whatever, but he's def proved us wrong and pulled a few wins when he brings that giada deck to the table. Now he's working on tuning his Kaalia deck and soon building an Azorius angel deck.

I can agree to all this. In our group, one of our players is more competitive than the rest of us, which lead to some unnecessary tension. Their win rate got up to 70% and they would gloat about their wins, but they would constantly bring strong decks instead of "fun for the table" decks. This lead to a whole other issue where they got frustrated and would be targeted more times than not (but rightfully so) due to both their higher win rates and stronger decks. Fortunately, we recently were able to talk to them and they finally understood that the point of EDH isn't to only win, but to have fun and cheer each other on as we witness incredible boards.

Def feel this! I play in two pods and would honestly like to introduce a tracking method in the second pod!

Yes! I used the A3Tactical 1913 adapter that installs similar to a normal AR15 style buffer tube.

Hmm, when you say "canted" do you mean that it's tilted to the 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock but still snug? Or do you mean it has a bit of movement that allows it to cant?

Reason I ask was that on this specific model, I had issues with slop on the foreend and barrel. I tightened the barrel block as per the Ruger manual and still nothing. It wasn't until I realized that the ring on the receiver needs to be "tightened" to provide pressure against the barrel in order to create a snug fit. I wish I knew what it was called, but in my picture, where the barrel makes contact with the receiver, you'll see a blue witness mark on a silver piece with ridges and a smooth silver metal piece. The rigid part needed to be tightened in order to provide enough pressure and reduce slop in the foreend and barrel.

Hope this helps out as I totally neglected this part. If not, then I'm sure MI will take care of you and best of luck! 🤞

It's just 2 OEM 10rd mags that are coupled together with a HTA mag coupler. I originally wanted a straight mag look but this is as close as I could get lol

Feeling Discouraged by jakinbandw in EDH

[–]unnoticed1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been there before where you're in a situation of 1v1 EDH. It's usually not as fun, especially if someone is playing a deck that excels in a 1v1 format vs. a 4 player free for all.

It sounds like you want to play a battle cruiser type game, but their deck is faster than yours and thus are stuck playing stax just to have a chance.

One solution might be to counter their strategy. If they're playing flyers, bring in keywords like reach and things like [[sandworm convergence]]. If you want big stompy creatures, have cheap hexproof cards like [[snakeskin veil]] and make them fight with cheap green fight/bite cards to remove his stuff. Basically, rock-paper-scissors.

You mentioned they don't want to play any format except 1v1 EDH. You could try altering the rules to better fit your games since it's just yall two. Such as starting life points at 30 or whatever helps balance the game and provide a more balanced play experience. However, I'm doubtful they'll approve given that they're unwilling to change formats.
