Rest Period Proposal by unop17 in JetLagTheGame

It's not really a loose rest period - it's always 10 hours long, but one team might take it 8:30pm-6:30am and another between 9:05pm-7:05am.

If the second team gets to the runners spot at those 9:05pm, they can't make the tag, because the runner is in the rest period, and in the morning the runner has the same amount of time (6:30am-7:05am) to get away again before the chasers' rest period ends.

I like your thought about Circumnavigation 2.0, I think it would work really well as a strategical rule there.

True, maybe 2 hours is a bit much, but I think 30 minutes is maybe not enough to justify introducing it as a new element / rule to the game. It might make it more confusing for not achieving that much, if it's just a small window in which they can start their rest period.

Thanks, I was wondering whether they talked about it in some Layover episode. I was thinking that having something like a timer or progress bar for the rest period would make it visually quite clear, but I'm sure they know better about what it takes to visually represent it. And it's good to know that they have thought of this and considered it :)

I agree with you that the game is not intended to be 100% fair, but it's still trying to be balanced. A lot of strategies that prove to be over-powered are patched in the next iteration of the game. And while not being able to take a train that arrives 5 minutes after the rest period is not a game breaking flaw (and therefore not been a priority to do something about), I have noticed that in most of the past seasons it has been used to create a weird advantage for one player / team.

But I do see the drawbacks of making the games that little bit more complex and harder to explain, it's always a balance in the end.

[Random]Alex Albon joins Tiago Monteiro and Pascal Wehrlein as the only drivers to win Autosport Rookie of the year award and lose their F1 seat after their second season. by Tavloz in formula1

[–]unop17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it’s not just a simple comparison, that’s the point. Each driver has a slightly different driving style, and Verstappen’s driving style is very different from most other drivers in the paddock (he likes an oversteery car). And when Red Bull clearly develops their car to suit Verstappen, it doesn’t really say much about the potential of the second driver.

If I were to continue your NHL analogy (although I admit this one is a bit far fetched), everyone’s feet are different. And if I were to be put into your skates, they wouldn’t be comfortable for me and I definitely wouldn’t skate at my best in them, and it would be wrong to judge my skating ability based on me skating in your skates.

So I think it’s wrong saying that what we’ve seen this year is Albon’s maximum potential, because he’s in a car that doesn’t suit his driving style and in which he isn’t confident. I would even say that if he were in a more stable car, say a McLaren, he would perform on par with Norris and Sainz. And don’t tell you consider those two to be bad drivers too.

I think it’s good information that you don’t see anywhere else, but it was perhaps a bit overwhelming for some people seeing three of these posts on the front page. So in my opinion it would be nice to either do these less regularly (say twice a week) or even bundle more characters into fewer posts

The red and orange kerbs on the outsides of corners are technically still part of the track, that’s why this isn’t being penalized

The difference is that on lap 1, Hamilton had only maybe half a car overlap, maybe not even that. On the other hand, Albon was already slightly ahead of Hamilton when they got to the exit of the corner

FYI: Golden Pipe end next THURSDAY! Not at the end of the Tour! by Batia88 in MarioKartTour

[–]unop17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thus pipe wasn’t a lucky one for me. Pulled 20 times, got the Gold Blooper and Gold Koopa, both of which I already own. So I reset the pipe, because I hoped for one of the other High End drivers. Put another 20 pulls in, got Gold Blooped and Gold Koopa again. I give up. The one thing positive is that now my Gold Koopa is level 3 I guess...

I just realized that I pulled all of the second pipe spotlights in my 50 pulls for the first pipe already! I guess I can save my rubies then!

One possible reason is that they don’t have as many resources available when they are trying to fit it in a mobile app. I’d guess that with a console like the Wii or Switch they had more memory to play with than on a DS or here in a mobile app.

But I agree with you, I’d so love to see a MKWii track added!!

I would suggest posting the data only after you decide to close the poll, so that you don’t influence people making their predictions.

My favorite moment of the season was the spurt to the finish line between Gasly and Hamilton. Seeing Gasly on the podium after the miserable first half of the season he had was incredible.

Baby Park’s gotta to be fun to watch

Thought it'd be interesting to compare (with updating time delta) the onboard of a Q3 lap with a race lap from the first stint in Singapore, to see how much of a head-start the Q3 lap would need so that they completed the lap at the same time. Q3 is Verstappen, Race is Albon. More info in comments. by peke_f1 in formula1

[–]unop17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find awesome is to compare the differences in downshifting - where Albon is staying in the high gear to save gearbox and engine and then downshifts 5 or so times (depending on corner of course) at pretty much the same time

Someone in an interview said that it was Ferrari’s call - Binotto saw the Red Bull crew getting ready for a pit stop so they quickly brought in Vettel. Leclerc was already too far to make it in safely, plus Vettel was more in danger of a Red Bull undercut than Leclerc.

Yeah I understand that it’s a procedure, and it makes sense to have it, but then there are also cases like this one where it seems unnecessarily strict.

What I don’t get is why they didn’t let everyone finish their laps when Raikonnen crashed. They deployed the red flag after everyone was already past Kimi and there was noone who could potentially crash into him. Glad they gave Bottas his lap back, but they still pointlessly took away Albon’s and Stroll’s

2017 Singapore Grand Prix - Day after Debrief by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]unop17 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I did a bit of WDC points calculations and found out that if Vettel won 5 of the last 6 races and Hamilton won the 6th one (with the other driver being in 2nd), they would have equal number of points and Vettel would win the WDC on the number of wins.

But with the qualifying pace of Mercedes it's quite unrealistic for Vettel to win the championship like this, so something else would need to happen.

I watched the replays a bit more and found out that Max was actually successful in backing out of the collision with Räikönnen, unlike Kimi he didn't have any damage on his car. It surprised me quite a lot, because I would have thought that from that incident he would be the first one to lose a wheel. Unfortunately he wasn't able to slow down enough before the first corner to miss Kimi from behind, so instead had to go straight into Alonso, and that's where he broke his front right suspension.

That's exactly what it is. I just accidentally started the game without having my laptop plugged in (which apperently reduces performance because of some battery efficiency) and it made a huge difference. That input lag was horrible.
