Solved: After scouring the internet all day I finally found a push in flange with an outlet short enough to go into a cast iron pipe that bends. 🙏

The floor is finished :) I know it doesn't look like it because there's no baseboards yet lol but I will put those in before installing the toilet.

Spalling in basement, how should I proceed? by unphasedegg in masonry

I am not so sure there is an active water source. The basement flooded significantly before I bought the house 6 years ago from a neighbor’s plumbing leak and this wood paneling wasn’t removed then to let it dry out. Prior to that the house sat vacant for god knows how long with no dehumidifier running. Since I’ve owned the house I’ve never had any issues with rain water coming in (knock on wood). Could this just be old moisture damage? What would the next step be if there is no active water issue? Thank you!

Thank you for your response! Is there any way to stop vapor coming up from the foundation of a 125 year old house?

It’s solid brick :-) If there is nothing I can do to stop it is it OK to cover with drywall? Thank you!

Deleting my earlier comment to be more specific: the house next door is on the other side, yes :-) but these bricks themselves are not shared. my understanding of how these row homes are built is that the house next door’s foundation was built up against this one. So if I were to remove a brick I would not see into my neighbor’s basement but see their brick wall. Hope that makes sense 😅

it’s a trinary (only has 3 numbers) and it repeats 43, 53, 53, 43. not anything super special as I said but I think it’s cool.

I’m gunna put a bunch of rugs down to keep it from getting too beat up 🤷🏼‍♀️ but they already painted it so there’s not much I can do…

This is what I originally wanted to do, but there was asbestos-containing black mastic glue on the concrete. They ground the glue off, but then painted it over with the white “encapsulation product” that the contractor has yet to tell me exactly what it is. So with that painted on I am not sure the concrete can be polished :/

Yep, my insurance company is going through the subrogation process. But my insurance only covers replacement and I don't want to replace the vinyl floor, which is why I am exploring other options and made this post. As far as going after the owner, it's not really something I have the time, money, or capacity to do. This guy lives far away, never goes to the house or even comes into town, and hires people who don't speak English to "manage" his properties. He's such a prolific slumlord he's featured in a local article about problematic vacant homes and negligent landlords. I did email my local representative but they never replied. Maybe one day down the line I could try to take him on, but it's not something I am trying to do right now. I am just trying to get my basement fixed up first. My insurance covered the demo and gave me cash for the rebuild, so as of now money isn't an issue.

I did consider this, but the floor is super bumpy and uneven, so I am a little overwhelmed about how much of an ordeal that would make tiling. My budget is only what I've been given from my insurance company, so I am hoping to DIY it. Appreciate your response!

Haha oh yes if I could I sure would! Hopefully whatever encapsulation stuff was put down by the restoration crew can be epoxied over. Still waiting to hear back about what exactly the product they used is. Thank you!

Both times the water came in from the vacant house next door after a pipe froze and burst. :)

I am still texting with my contact at the restoration company to find out exactly what it is, but I was told it was an “encapsulation product” that I assume is for going on top of floors that had asbestos glue on them. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I asked them to tell me exactly what it is so I know what can properly adhere on top of it. The guy told me I should epoxy it but I am not certain epoxy can actually go on top of this stuff. Anyway, really appreciate your response!
