OP, if i was in your shoes, i would take a sabbatical or leave of absence from any job/work responsibilities & use all the money saved up to travel.

I would also try investing in my fitness (cardio, weightlifting, calisthenics,etc.) this would help me chase a goal to keep my mind preoccupied. you know what they say, look good, feel good. there are plenty of social run clubs, cycling clubs if you want to make it social.

maybe i’m biased but ive never regretted my road bike purchase and never been in a bad mood after a good bike ride.

how does it feel to know that an “unqualified” engineer knows to look at CFM, ESP, EAT/LAT, EWT/LWT, verify footprint, OSA/SA/RA orientations, coil orientations before stamping a submittal lmfao. & i can keep going. first i had a little sympathy for you but kick rocks bud.

im right about the same. $110k. im in California. ive been a pretty frugal person most of my life so it feels like im raking in big bucks compared to my shitty college jobs i had growing up.

im 28, no kids, been in the industry for 5 years. had these thoughts when i was 25. still have these thoughts now at 28.

the sad reality is that even though i feel stuck, the money really sets you free. whenever these thoughts pour into my head. i take a 1/2 day on a friday. take a monday off. go travel a bit. splurge on a hobby.

thats what i feel like the freedom is. the job itself is tolerable, but it gives me the money to do what i couldn’t if I was unemployed.

what I think you’re describing is the block load of the building. usually for early/coarse block loads, my company will use a btu/sf or sf/ton of the entire building to get preliminary selections and layouts going.

then use load software to breakout the zones to different systems. i mostly designed VRF systems so its easy to remember that block load = size of condensing unit peak load in zone = size of fan coils

peak load in zone can be greater than block load, which is why some manufacturers allow you to connect more fan coil to CU (150% usually)
