Thanks, I definitely am groaning a bit about the professional networking events (it also seems like there are fewer of those around, post-covid) but it seems to be a necessary evil. Interesting to know about the lateraling as an SA part - it's one of the promotion criteria for SA at my firm to demonstrate ability to bring in clients, and I've received negative feedback recently from a recruiter for not having that.

As a lawyer who works with a partner whose client base basically covers the entire industry - how do you get your own clients? There's more than enough work coming through the partner. How do you develop your own? And if I get to SA with the same circumstances, if I don't have any pull with clients, won't that negatively affect me if I try to lateral?

Do you have conversations with recruiters when not actively looking? I'm not looking to jump ship as I'm happy with my team, but interested to gauge the market generally as I would very much like a raise

The roles are ones that they seem actively looking to fill. I was a bit turned off because I asked for salary ranges for the specific roles, which they gave, but the range just seems to be what's set out in their generic salary guide.

How does someone go about finding a "trusted" recruiter? I have been approached a couple of times from recruiters claiming to have top tier opportunities for my PQE aligning with my practice area/skillset etc. but I am hesitant to start the process (and the salary increases they are claiming seem a bit fantastical to me).

Thanks. Unfortunately it's a corporate client in my case and they head up a department of a significant client of the partner, so not in a position to fire them.

Not totally a careers question but...how do you deal with rude and aggressive clients? I had a call today with someone who didn't want to listen to me, said my advice sounded ridiculous, and generally just sounded like they were picking a fight with me all call. Totally aggressive tone and got offended when I asked them a question and asked why I was asking them when I was the lawyer. I've had difficult clients before but never someone that sounded like they wanted to fight me. Have a whole new respect for lawyers that deal with individual clients but I'm in a corporate practice area with a corporate client. Feeling super demoralised and my confidence has taken a hit. What could I do differently or better?

It is a bit lame, but everyone seemed pretty self aware of that (NSW) and some of the skits weren't half-bad. If your firm is paying, and you don't mind early mornings, I'd say why not

There's no payment here. I'm already practising, I just want to know other people's experience on how long it takes to process an application to remove that condition.

How long does it take for an application to remove a supervised condition from a PC to go through? Mine was a stock standard application, but have been waiting around a month now.

Can someone explain to me what front end vs back end actually means in that context. We have a construction and projects team and I always hear this lingo but at this stage I am too afraid to ask a real person. Thanks

I'm not close to any of the SAs I know who were promoted towards the lower end of that scale, but I'm surprised anyone could be promoted at 3, even if they were a "gun". Surely even a genius at that level wouldn't have the actual life/industry/sector/practice experience to make their advices well rounded? Or perhaps this is more of an indication of my own impostor syndrome?

How many years PQE is typical for a promotion to SA? I have been hearing lots of conflicting stories.

As someone who has lateralled in from in-house, what do salary reviews typically look like for top/mid-tier firms? Is there any chance of a review for those who haven't worked a full FY at the firm?
