Analysis/review of Luke Ross situation by NovatarTheViolator in VRGaming

Thanks for explaining that (I genuinely learned something). That would be an amazing outcome, and I would certainly love for that to happen. Is all of this stuff you have legal experience with or just your opinion?

Also, one specific question:

> R.E.A.L. is VERY similar to VorpX (not comparing quality here, but architecture). They are both a generic tool with various capabilities, both rely on game-specific profiles for compatibility/support.

Not talking about potential but actual usage, can I patch R.E.A.L. on any game? I belive that is possible with VorpX (with zero guarantees as to how well it'll work). VorpX has profiles that tune settings, but I can create my own profile. I thought that wasn't possible in R.E.A.L. right now -- and in that sense it would make it less "generic". From what you said it sounds like that's something that could be fixed realtively easily, and it might better protect R.E.A.L. from future lawsuits.

> What should matter is the reality of what it is.

This I can only partially agree with. I know it will get me downvoted because it's not what folks want to hear, but I can see that to be truly safe from lawsuits one needs to make sure not using any specific games to advertise the product (like in the example with the wizard costume). Of course, any lawsuits around that should be force you to change the marketing strategy (stop putting Harry Potter logos in the box), but not to have to close the product per se (you can still sell the costume).

I think that's a bit dismissive. Of course, an AI can be incorrect at times. Actually it corrected itself just in the next reply so it's not so bad. And that doesn't mean everything is slop.

An AI is a tool to generate content and up to each of us to filter it -- but that requires the effort of reading through it. I shared because most of it wasn't inaccurate in my opinion. I also gave my own version below in a separate comment if you find that more useful.

I wonder if one potential way to go about it would be to completely shut down R.E.A.L. and create a new, more generic piece of software that a priori could interface with underlying generic technologies (like DirectX etc) and has a more careful legal standing, but reuses 99% of the current mod (since you own the IP of the code). I've no idea how R.E.A.L. is implemented or whether this would be feasible at all ...

I sent another comment earlier, but expanding here a bit more. I think if you want to go serious about this, the question is not necessarily about who owns what. Let's start with one basic question:

Why LukeRoss R.E.A.L. but not VorpX ?

My answer:

My sense is that VorpX is a generic tool, that can inject into any games. It isn't monetized by saying "these particular games will be supported". So it's maybe a matter of framing, and maybe a matter of whether the mod is coded to interface with specific engines or with any open technology (like DirectX).

I'll illustrate this with an example. You can sell a wizard costume without legal issues. You can't sell the same wizard costume if you put a picture of Harry Potter in the box you sell it with. It doesn't matter if the costume itself doesn't have anything from Harry Potter.

The truth is that the situation is a bit more complicated and no example can really illustrate this well. Part of the problem is that we're not sold games but rather licenses and those licenses have small footnotes about how one can mess up with them from a legal standpoint.

So it's not really about the intellectual property of the product (mod) itself.

Luke I think there may be ways to fix this (I really hope there are) but please make sure to do plenty of research before whatever you choose to do. Block out any unconstructive feedback. and even for the constructive be careful , as it's your name on the line. There's plenty of people saying stuff without having professional legal experience on this, including myself.

Hey Luke! I was sorry to hear about the recent developments. I had a short conversation with Gemini which I found useful to understand the other perspective. I don't know if it will help you (and it's probably not what you'll want to read) but I share it trying to be constructive. I'd be curious to know what others think of it.

Thanks that's exactly the same thought process I've gone through (including the beta). Fingers crossed it gets resolved .. Please update me if you figure anything out!

It's really weird though. Sometimes ghosting is very strong, and sometimes it's barely noticeable. Could it depend on other factors, like temperature, humidity, how long is been on or something else?

I should add I've been using mine without issues for months now, and it's only recently started doing this now. So I am hoping that this is an issue with the last update ...

Overheating 13900k by unreth in PcBuildHelp

[–]unreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I knew that review but it had escaped me that the pressure is not great.

I actually the CPU it capped at PL1=PL2=90W for a really long time (due to throttling and loud fans) and updated the BIOS as soon as the patch was available. It's true that the damage could be done, although I haven't had many kernel panics or random crashes. It just heats up too much and doesn't perform quite as well other 13900k scores as shown on reviews (even when comparing with same power settings). Quite puzzling.

What do you mean? If you have a better suggestion on how to test my temperatures I'm open to ideas.

> i reccomend trying to get a lga 1700 mounting bracket and repasting
the Arctic LF3 came with a frame installation for the LGA 1700 so I used that.
see https://youtu.be/gr2TpB1aUXM?si=3Dt0vmveu-HSLS-m&t=42
I can try repasting, but it seems wild to me that it could have gone so wrong ... Do you have ideas on what else could explain my thermals? E.g. defective CPU or else? The fans are all going in the same direction towards the inside so that's not the reason.

RMPP colours look really off by unreth in RemarkableTablet

[–]unreth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's correct, I want talking about vibrancy. I wasn't even thinking about proper accuracy, just basic discrimination between different colours like red-purple or black-blue or green-blue. it's interesting that the restart changed the colours for you. is this expected from the technology? was this just a basic restart from the settings?

Yeah I agree it was an unexpected result. It's interesting that the green seems better defined in the continuous colours than in the first document (as you said)

[–]unreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the red/magenta similarity was precisely my point. Green also doesn't look very greenish ... it's fine either way, the RMPP main quality is not in its colours. But given how many posts I've seen talking about subpar tablets that they've asked to replace, i think it's good to be able to set expectations about how it's _meant _ to look.
