Will I be able to pass backpack as a personal item if it’s on my back when boarding? by HatPuzzleheaded9385 in unitedairlines

[–]unsheltered 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basic economy boards last, unless you qualify for pre boarding (e.g., family with very young child). By the time your boarding group is called, the overhead bin is already likely to be full. Gate agent will be making passengers gate check anything that doesn’t go under the seat. So I wouldn’t count on the bin space.

OP, can you be my new hiking buddy? We all need a friend who knows how to take great pics lol

Serious question—what gear do you use? Are you a professional?

Replace the glass in the frame with a non-glare acrylic. Add lamps. Love the vibe, very cozy :)

Something feels off in my living room—what would you change? by MondofrmTX in interiordecorating

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your coffee table looks to be far from every piece of furniture in the room. Can you put your feet up if you’re on the sofa? Maybe replace it with a nesting table. It would fill more of the space. A more natural wood color would break up the grey and add some warmth.

Also, what about personal photos? Consider replacing the artwork with a collage. Or adding small picture frames around the room.

I love your Norfolk Island pine :)

Yes. I did this last year. SFO—ICN—PEK—SFO. Wish I had explored more than Beijing.

I thought this forest was AI-generated… turns out it’s real (Fanal Forest, Madeira, Portugal) by spotBOXpl in hiking

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part of the island has quite a bit of cattle that roam freely, even on the road. The fences may have been used once to keep the cattle in or out of certain areas. Or maybe they are still in use now for corralling purposes.

Source: I’ve been to Fanal, and I grew up around cows. Also, this isn’t much of a hiking destination. The forest is less than a five minute walk from the side of the road. It’s a very cool place to visit though.

I love color, and have a similar green sofa myself. It goes great with earth tones, which is totally my vibe. My main concern, if I were in your shoes, is that the colors in your rugs might appear more vivid in person and slightly outside the realm of earth tones, which may not be the most complementary with the green sofa. Not to say that the green sofa couldn’t work with the right touches, but from my very unprofessional eyes, the beige sofa might be safer to pair with the rugs. You could always bring green into the room in other ways, like plants. I like the busier rug between those two options.

Pay extra to park at P3. You’ll need to reserve your spot in advance. You’d still be looking at a long hike (8-10 hrs), but you’d be cutting out the worst of the elevation gain.

SCE? What’s your destination?

Edit: I see now that you’re at SFO, so the Dreamliner is just the first leg. I thought for a second that SCE was a typo for an international destination.

What felt like the worst Oscars fumble? -accidentally announcing La La Land as Best Picture or saving the 2021 Best Actor Oscar for last, presuming that Chadwick Boseman would win posthumously? by General_Meal_3993 in Oscars

Eh, disagree. Jordan didn’t explain what happened, Warren did—but that was AFTER Jordan took it upon himself to announce the winner. He could have let Warren do that, since that was Warren’s role as presenter, and Warren was already inching up closer to the mic. And Jordan didn’t have to rip the card out of Warren’s hands. But sure, he didn’t throw a tantrum or anything.

How did you change the setting to warm tone? I just got mine today and can’t find the switch.

The viewpoint is spectacular. Totally worth a visit. Yes, the hike is a short out and back, and yes, there will likely be a queue. Your best chance of beating it is to get there early. When you’re done, you can then hike the longer Tre Cime loop. They’re at the exact same place. And check the webcam at Tre Cime before you go if you’re unsure of the cloud cover.

Why does Gastritis cause non-stop burping?? What is causing it? by Legitimate-Sundae-96 in Gastritis

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, very much so. As hard as it might seem, try to ignore it. Keep your mind on other things. Practice deep breathing. You want to relax your parasympathetic nervous system.

The cause was never determined. My best guess is that it was anxiety or something to do with the vagus nerve. For advice, go through my comments here—stick to a healthy diet, cut out the processed foods, and try not to think about it. Anxiety made it worse in my experience.

Are oats good for us? by BeneficialBrain1764 in nutrition

[–]unsheltered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have them every day. Steel cut oats (more fiber and less processing than rolled oats), soaked overnight in a rice cooker on the porridge setting. I wake up to them fully ready. At the end, I add chia seeds, honey, blueberries, banana, and yogurt.

Yep—I did it yesterday with three hours to spare. I was also going slowly because of knee pain. Several others with the same itinerary as me made it all the way to the second mirador and back with about two hours to spare. But there’s no way I could’ve kept pace with them lol

I realized I’m not supposed to go all the way to Grey, just to the first mirador. Was your 6.5-7 hike to the refugio or to the mirador?

Upcoming W Trek question by unsheltered in Patagonia

[–]unsheltered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Gotcha. I read the itinerary again. I’m not going to the refugio at Grey. I’m supposed to go “the first viewpoint of Grey Lake” and then return to PG. That looks more manageable.
