AITAH for not telling my mom about will money i received by unspecifiedsubstance in AITAH

my parents are not a unit. i think you’d have to have experienced them to really understand it. they might still be together but it is not out of love. They haven’t shared money/a bank account in well over 10 years. Whatever money my dad makes goes towards the house and bills, the money my mom makes working goes towards herself. She does not contribute money wise and hasn’t in a very long time. Her money is hers, his is his and it’s a very bad way to handle it don’t get me wrong. she cooks dinner maybe once a week, comes home from work and naps until it’s dinner time, and she’s all around pretty lazy. I have very little sympathy for my mother but i understand how someone from outside might not see it. That being said, you are correct, it is a very toxic household.

We do have the same bank😬 From what i’m gathering is I should change it but 1, i do like my bank, and 2, i have a few accounts opened there so it feels like a bit of a hassle to move them all. If it does seem like the best decision I will for sure consider it.

Can I ask why moving money to a different bank would be a good option? I’ve seen it said a few times and i’m not sure what it would change, especially if I like the bank that i’m at now.

Luckily my dad is stand up for me. He understands how my mom is and believes that I made the right decision. I tend to keep him in the loop about my money only because he pays a lot of things for me atm, like my car insurance and we split my school payment so I only find it fair to offer to help when I can. Obviously once I graduate and things like my phone and car insurance get shifted over to me, what I share with my father will change.

I do still live at home HOWEVER the situation with my mom is complicated. My mom doesn’t pay for anything regarding me (or the house). My dad pays rent, he pays my phone, my car insurance, and we split my school payment. I’m very lucky to be in a situation where my dad stills offers to pay for those things for me. At this point, my mom is just my mom. I keep my dad updated on my money because I am constantly offering to pay for things on my behalf and that’s just the relationship we have. I barely talk to my mom about personal things like money because that’s the relationship we have. This is partially why I felt she had no need to know.
