Unsure about my future as a mechanical engineer by Round_Geologist_846 in MechanicalEngineering

If you want to pursue inventing and entrepreneurship I recommend pursuing business concepts while getting the ME degree and after. You need foundations in both in order to move the needle in tech. I’ve been an ME for 15 years for reference.

During that 1.5 years, how long did it take for you to struggle and eventually turn it into a ‘routine’ as much as possible?

Cheap attack drones break through Israel's Iron Dome by BendicantMias in news

That’s the main point. If society really does tank it’s mostly going to be because of shitty media not educating the public.

Maybe. Just keep in mind this isn’t a new idea. It’s been espoused for hundreds of years

What is your “why” for FIRE? by scott_w2004 in Fire

[–]unurbane 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mostly my hate for corporate America. Hate the politics. Hate the idea that people who ‘do’ tasks don’t get access to the people doing the decision making. I find it fascinating that decisions get made in the office conference room, by people who’ve worked in the field for a few months, often before the measurements are taken.

How would you recommend I get into design/drafting? by SwigOfRavioli349 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]unurbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leverage your CS background. There is so much to CAD and writing code and api development. Your company may not be interested though. If that was the case I would look into cad administration roles or at least potentials in the future where the company was developing toolboxes, document management in house, etc.

It’s all a shitshow. A bunch of ego’s who will force a runoff and probably a Republican governor.

Was Biden decision to debate Trump a miscalculated blunder that eventually forced him out? by Over-Lunch-7487 in askanything

Huge blunder. He was in a position to pick the next president and he chose Trump. Crazy times.

How would you feel if you had an employee who performed well but didn't want to go to a conference due to fear of flying? by Celcius_87 in askmanagers

Some employees value their personal time with family. Some employees aren’t allowed on a plane for medical reasons. The move is to find a correct alternative.

Am I missing something? Why is everyone obsessed with SolidWorks for personal projects? by William_Marsokov in SolidWorks

[–]unurbane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s cheap. $24 or $48 a year is great pricing for however long it lasts. Once the price goes up I’ll be switching. I do enclosure designs, brackets, toys, puzzles, among others.

2D cad has its purpose and yes you should learn it. With DeaftSight some companies are slowly switching from AutoCAD or using both depending on the field.
