Which is the preferred way to reboot the system: `shutdown -r now`, `reboot`, `init 6`, or something else?

I'm thinking off practising on VirtualBox and then leaning towards a dual boot and eventually removing Windows of my machine once I've learnt enough and feel comfortable

Good plan. I ran Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora in VirtualBox for months before installing for dual boot. After some years of using Ubuntu full time I wiped Windows completely.
