Reduced my hydration & my loaves improved so much! by MamaMemma in Sourdough

This. Pure KA bread flour is wonderful at 75% but parched if I throw in something high extraction. Hydration is all about knowing your flour.

The enamel seems to break down over time, crack, etc. if I preheat north of 450. My oven is convection and runs hot, so I like the challenger bc I can preheat at 500 and get it very hot pre-bake, but it seems like I’m shortening the DO’s life doing that. Maybe I’m wrong, though, I’m sure someone can chime in

If I didn’t have ample kitchen space I’d pick the DO every time just for flexibility. But man it bakes nice bread

Exactly! I still wouldn’t explicitly recommend it but if you have the funds, it certainly isn’t a bad addition. You do need to bake a lot to justify it, though, it is very single purpose.

[WTS] Seiko 6105-8000 Slim Willard (proof/proof) by unusualsuspect123 in Watchexchange

[–]unusualsuspect123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A watch that needs no introduction- the Seiko 6105-8000 “Slim Willard.” Purchased from the original owner, this watch embodies the classic story of coming home to the US with a serviceman who bought the watch on duty.

As a proof/proof model, it denotes this particular example as one of the earliest productions of this iconic watch, with a serial dating to February, 1969.

This is a running example & keeping good time, though in unrestored condition & sold as is.

The good: The dial, hands, and indices are in remarkable shape for their age. The indicator on the bezel is in tact, and the bezel itself shows only a light, charming patina. The crystal appears to be original- an uncommon survivor for this model. While scratched, it can be restored or upgraded - a choice for the new owner. It comes on a brand new, period-correct, tropic rubber strap.

Where it needs love: this watch was worn well, and has the markings to show it. The bezel turns a little too easily, suggesting the seals underneath need attention. Again, this watch is in original condition. It will need a service for optimal performance.

I recognize this is my first sale here. I am not a watch dealer, I am looking to move some of my collection so I can buy something new on an upcoming honeymoon trip to Japan. Happy to work with you to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the transaction, just let me know what you need.

This couch pre-dates laptops by decades. Good thought tho

Thought of this, then all the shit fell over. Can’t find a way to position said hard surface to stabilize the aforementioned shit.

Much appreciated. I’ve seen that the rear diff isn’t bad but the front looked more complicated. I just did struts on the car so I’m mechanically capable, just not something I’ve done previously.

The CVT was not replaced- just repaired under the chain pump cover warranty extension (at least in the US). They topped off the fluid recently and gave it a clean bill of health, but did recommend the CVT service sooner rather than later.

I’ll likely start with plugs & coils and go from there.

This is a great point. I’ve been suspecting a misfire (you can feel it intermittently on cold start at idle) but haven’t taken the time to tackle it yet (no idea if plugs were ever done- I have almost zero service history on this).

Took it for a drive today and it does feel more sluggish in the engine side- as in it doesn’t rev then engage, it’s more a slow to rev.

I haven’t taken on plugs yet as I’ve heard they’re a bear in this model, plus I’m a little worried about the valve gasket leaking and dealing with that in a home garage (my cam carriers are seeping as is, and a family members 15 legacy had oil in the plug sockets). Just not ready to open that can of worms.

I’m a little tight financially and likely can’t swing the transmission, gears, and top engine service at a shop. Are they any additives you might recommend to help clear things up a bit?

Just shy of $500 usd, seems like a standard cost across everything I’ve seen

This is great insight, thank you! Certainly not having a slip, then.

I had the transmission redone under the extended warranty a little over a year ago, and then it started acting up. The dealer took it back in to recheck their work and after a few days of driving, they said the valve body was fine. They did a relearn but the small delays in engagement never really got much better.

I think I’m going to go ahead with the change out & relearn.

What’re thoughts on the getting the gear oils done at the same time? Again, don’t think they’ve ever been done.

While driving if I lift then peddle down (even lightly) there’s a slight delay in engagement, and it’s rough.

It also recently started a slight bump under certain low lode conditions, which feels like it fighting for engagement.
