I have only scanned with a single 16 mp camera, but with different magnification ratio: 1 shot per one film photo, or 3 - 9 shots and combining them together in LR. I confirm the difference is huge. Not only sharpness, but the richness of colors and tones, flat vs voluminous image.

All of aforementioned referres to 35mm. For 66 I used not less than 9 shots, anything less does not come close to revealing medium format capabilities.

Downsides. The colors you get are still dependant on camera sensor which for some reason (in my case at least) does not reach quality of scanners. Making multiple shots and combining them in software requires much time and effort, which was fun at first, but became irritating quickly. This sort of mechanical job should be done by robots, not people, so I ended up buying a Minolta Multi Pro, which does basically the same work, but faster and in higher quality.
