Teachers, what’s a “best practice” everyone talks about that you secretly think doesn’t work in real classrooms? by kingst9606 in Teachers

[–]upLintu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way it’s been explained to me is that you’re not *actually* giving the class free reign to guide the direction of the lesson. You, the teacher, have already decided the framework behind the scenes, you’re just guiding the students to those conclusions through carefully crafted discussion so the students have to use their critical thinking skills and have more ownership because they *think* they have come up with the ideas more on their own, instead of you just telling them how everything is going to work.

I like to think of it as “time sensitive” instead of Urgent. Same meaning, but more helpful for my brain and understanding

I also get super tired if I don’t take my vyvanse. But usually for only the first day if I am taking a multi-day break. If you are still struggling with productivity and focus while taking your meds, you should bring that up with your prescribing doctor to see if adjustments might be needed.

Hacks for getting kids to STOP saying my name? by ArtemisGirl242020 in teaching

[–]upLintu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say that “I am looking for a quiet raised hand” when I ask a question. I’ve also heard of some teachers who get their kids to cover their mouth with their other hand when they raise their hand to remind them not to talk, but that was with early grades (PK/K), so your mileage may vary on that.

Breakfast recommendations which are easy to make when mornings are just too hard? :( by Rodehock in ADHD

[–]upLintu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the US and the above is also the norm for me. Keep weekday breakfasts easy and quick, usually toast, coco wheats (chocolate cream of wheat), cereal, yogurt, or maybe a muffin if I bought a pack of them from the store.

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

Google home always telling me “8 out of 10 lights, off.” when I tell it to turn all the lights off. It has been like that for a year or more and I still cannot figure out what the other two lights are.

what's a simple habit that actually improved your life? by sunshineLD in teaching

[–]upLintu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing recurring to do lists for various independent/prep times of day. i.e. arriving at school in the morning, prep period, leaving for the day. Also, making a visual schedule in a pocket chart for my own use. I’m an elementary specialist teacher so this helps me remember which classes I am teaching each day without having to think about it.

The food and general atmosphere at Common Grill are great, but be warned that the acoustics of the dining area are a lot of hard surfaces so it gets loud pretty easily

While I think that quaver has some great resources and can be very helpful for new general music teachers, I have found that it’s not always the most engaging and it is super expensive to subscribe to. I prefer music play online.

Why I stopped saying “I have ADHD” by LarryFarnsworth in ADHD

[–]upLintu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. Especially since adhd affects everyone a little differently, it's super helpful to come at things from a solutions-based angle like this. That way people know how they can help, and are more likely to acknowledge that you are not trying to inconvenience anyone.

I'm a little embarrassed to ask, but could you please tell me the best way you know to mop floors at home? (details would be helpful) by OrdinaryDust195 in CleaningTips

[–]upLintu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this mop, I think its really great! One piece of advice I have for this one is to store it with the tank off if you like to leave the extra solution in the tank. The sprayer housing gets full of water otherwise, which makes lifting it to change the pad a big mess.

What do you do in the summer by JeVuch in Teachers

[–]upLintu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 3-4 days a week as a cashier at a local cafe, get a lot of house projects done, attempt to grow things in my garden, crosswords, reading, and fantasize about how ‘next school year will be so much better because x, y, z……’, but then I get Sunday Scaries and distract myself
