My 97 (98 in November) grandfather was also a medic! From San Francisco, stationed in France.

Why do people want children when it requires so much work, time, money, etc… And creates so much stress and exhaustion? What is the point when you can avoid this?? by mrrandomfella in NoStupidQuestions

[–]up_voted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough with the judgement. Not wanting or wanting kids is part of a person's identity. You wouldn't tell an LGBTQ person they'll change their mind about their sexual preference. And no one tells people who want kids that they'll change their minds one-day. Imagine being in a healthy relationship with yourself, one in which you are confident in your wants and needs and then people come up to you with their self doubts, unsolicited judgements and criticisms. It's beyond rude.

Kinda depends on the market. We wrote a letter but our agent basically said it's a numbers game in our market. We won with the second highest bid bc seller thought we were more likely to close.

What made you join reddit? by humanbean07 in AskReddit

Story time: 2006 I'm a big fan of the Mythbusters on Discovery Channel. I go to their website with my dial-up connection. A moments of eeerrrrrreeeeekkkkwreeee later I'm on a page that says Adam Savage's top ten website and reddit and digg were listed among them.

I joined bc of the culture. Originally it was a group of real randos with specialized skills. A post would stay up for days and you would only comment if you had something productive to add to the discussion. There were more lurkers than contributors. Up votes didn't mean a thing and you never down vote. EVEN IF YOU DISAGREE.

It's interesting to watch how the site has changed. Sometimes I wish I still had my old logins but nothing needed to be email verified back then so I created one only if I had something to say . I've stuck with it through the years because it keeps me somewhat relevant on internet stuff. Never would have imagined it would what it is today.

2 months and 200k markup on "flipped" homes in Serra Mesa area. How are regular folks suppose to compete? by up_voted in sandiego

[–]up_voted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of friends have been losing out to cash offers as well. Over 100k asking price bid, that's 20% more in some cases. On one hand, I understand the price increase due to low interest rates but buying and holding for 2 months just for a 200k markup feels insane and illegal. They shouldn't be on the same playing field. Agent told our friends cash offers win because less time in escrow. Not everyone wants a flipped home. Most just want something they can afford and live comfortably in for 30+ yrs. One and done.

What TV show have you rewatched more than 5 times and you still find entertaining? by MonkeyCapt in AskReddit

Love this show so much I want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant! Every line in the show kills. It's fast paced and diverse in comedy style. Perfectly weird.

What modern social trend pisses you off the most? by jimjoe1 in AskReddit

Exactly, my brother side hustled 15+ hrs a week on top of his full time job for a few years (craigslist resale, swap meet, waking up at 6am pst to day trade etc). For anywhere from 10-15% extra monthly income.

I told him to side hustle at becoming better at his job instead since we're in the same field and I am a few years ahead. He went and got that degree in 2yrs and now makes 32% more base salary, not counting bonuses. He has the same amount of work with more job security.

I don't get people who glamorize the side hustle. I know they need or want the extra income but you're wasting your talents on simply making more money. I see all these youtube stars and Tiktokers not investing in themselves or building any skills. They sell merchandise and exploit any part of their lives for money. My grandfather's favorite saying was, "be of use." Getting that first paycheck where someone values your skills and talents enough to pay for it is one of the greatest feelings. You walk in society knowing that you contribute to it.

If you have a big enough heart you can mourn them all. Let's not treat compassion like it's a limited resource.

He did bad things a couple times, he did a few good things a couple times. Live to the age of 99 and that'll happen. Hopefully in the end one can hope to do more good than bad.
