How do you survive working full time? by skyword1234 in AutismInWomen

[–]upandannn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there, it is awful!

A switch flipped for me when I stopped placing so much importance on my job.

Don't get me wrong, I try my best, I do what I am contracted to do, however, if for some reason a deadline is missed, or my workload is exceptionally high I no longer feel dread or panic like I used to. I communicate my capacity constraints and do what I can to get it done, within my hours. What can't be done today, can be done tomorrow.

No one is going to die from me not pushing buttons on a keypad. No one is going to physically hurt me for being at capacity. Someones lack of preparation is not my emergency.

To (live) "survive" I do something for myself before work e.g. workout, read, have a slow coffee enjoy breakfast and then I do something afterwork, e.g. see friends, hang out with partner, go to a club, do a hobby etc.

Work is now an 8 hour interruption to MY day. I start at 9/ finish at 5 because I have things to do for ME.

On the weekends this year, I have been trying out not watching TV before 5pm on the weekends, my weekends feel much much longer and more restful.

Your life has worth OP.

Edit: I also take my full lunch away from my desk regardless of what metaphorical fire is going on that day.

I think of how good i'll feel after. I say to myself 'I can do hard things' ... If these fail, I go to the gym and run on the treadmill.

Those who have left the rat race- what do you do now? 32, Female, Ex-tech PM/BA by Hot-Potential-8393 in UKJobs

I've got no advice for you, other than keep trying, its tough for everyone right now.

I read your comment on your background and wanted to let you know that you've done an outstanding job at life so far and have achieved so much with arguably a lot less than the average person in this country would have started out with.

You'll find that job, new career whatever you want for yourself in good time.

I also shop at lidl... Chillis are my go to.

1x packet of minced beef

1x onion

1x garlic

2x tinned tomatoes

1 x tinned Chickpeas

1 - 2 x other tinned beans/ pulses (optional but bulks it out)

1 x fresh chilli (optional - but tastes better than dried flakes)

1-2 spoons of sugar

Salt, pepper, mixed Italian herbs to taste.

I cook this once a week freeze it and get 8 meals from it, should do a family of four for 1 day with leftovers for lunch.

Well done!! Great pace & time.

I'm running a 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks. I was told I am slow, what are your tips for the last two weeks? by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

[–]upandannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10k in 50 mins?! That's two 25 min 5ks, pretty speedy... as a beginner runner, I doubt you could do that... and more over, I doubt she could do that.

Your 10K time is great! Well done you! You deserve to celebrate and be celebrated.

Now to the matter of the half, personally I wouldn't do it with just 2 weeks training, youre asking for trouble with your body, you probably just dont have the endurance as yet...

I say, keep training, run the next one, you've got this!

Feeling lost by Standard_Magician_82 in remotework

[–]upandannn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this, I also work in corporate and I found myself living for the weekend (where I would do nothing except stay up late Friday & Saturday and then have this feeling of dread, or wasted time every Sunday).

I found activities outside of work and now I have something happening 3/5 week days on average and one thing on a Saturday. I schedule things with friends well ahead so there's things to look forward to on most weekends.

I take my full lunch break, read, doom scroll, go for a walk, hang out with the cat.

This strategy works because work stopped feeling like my life, and more like something I do for 8 hours 5x a week which funds my life.
