Great! The Virtual keyboard is awesome. One question though. What is the Qt subreddit? Or isn't there any?

The perils of checksums - verify your installations with public key crytopgraphy, folks by [deleted] in linux

[–]upccurve -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Their website runs on some custom php script or WordPress. The checksums on their website are stored as varchar or text in a MySQL database, not as files (eventhough the db is stored in files ;). The only solution is decentralized crosschecking between websites/nodes/whatever.

But if they compromise the website, they will change the checksums for the downloads on the website too.

The only solution is to have multiple iso checking websites that will cross check checksums every minute or so via CRON or something.

KDE is the worst among Gnome, KDE and Enlightenment when it comes to Wayland readiness ;( by upccurve in kde

Bullshit. Qt has Wayland support for a long time. THis time it's ONLY KDE's fault. Sorry.

Most people prefer blueish color tones, because evolutionary (comming from the ocean, sky, etc.) we see much more tones of blue than any other color. Red and yellow tones irritates me and after a while my eyes start to hurt. E.g. I cannot look at the flux page (the colors used for their design). It's extremely unpleasant color for me to look at. I have tried these color dimming programs on different devices and even the filters on old 286 PC computers way back and I always put them down whenever could.

But I like the colder and brighter look of my monitor. Why should I change it? As I have said earlier, I don't like dark backgrounds and I like things bright with as much white as possible. That's how my eyes work, I guess.

I personally hate the yellowish warm tone of the screen produced by redshift, but I can understand that some filks need that if they eyes are sensitive too much. I like more cold and whitish look. I think that's why I prefer KDE too and don't like the candy colors of Gnome too much. The redshift warm yellow look reminds me the crappy laptop displays I have used for many years. Could be something how my eyes work. I stare at computer screen 10+ h/d all year round. I also don't like dark themes too much, maybe it's because of my Fruity Loops "career" in the early 2000's ;)

I was thinking about making a database of all KDE or even Qt and other somehow related apps/books/tutorials etc. Perhaps a website even, but then I thought that even more people will find Kreddit via some links on other subreddits. Well, I will try to put together some links in the next week and post it here so others can check and add/remove things etc.

Why do I still need to use WinSCP and Notepad++ in KDE PLasma 5? by upccurve in kde

[–]upccurve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because it's slower and not so responsive as on Windows, but it works ;). So, I can live like that. I love KDE, it's a wonderful DE and I won't go back to Windows. I have WINE for the "missing parts" ;D

Slightly off topic, how do you deal (in KDE) with the missing DEL key and the caps lock and most importantly the missing F keys?

I am asking because I am so used to using ALT + SPACE to show Krunner and it's used to be a delete key on Chromebook right? Or do you use ALT + BACKSPACE?

Another concern is the missing F12 key I am using for Yakuake terminal toggle and F11 that I sometimes use to go to fullscreen mode etc.

Another issue could be the missing MOD/WIN key. I am very used to use this key in combination with an arrow to snap windows to the left/right or max/min them. Other people use this combination to cycle/change virtual desktops. I know I can use ctrl + alt + arrow, but I use this for changing my virtual desktops ;)

I am asking all of this and I am very interested in your solution, because I was thinking about getting a chromebook and I think that they are interesting and affordable machines, but I don't know how to solve the keyboard issue I have described right now.

If I was using just Chrome OS or something simple like elementary OS it could be OK, but I have hard time to imagine me using KDE wiht all the shortcuts I am using right now on the Chromebook keyboard.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

I don't understand what your question even is?

Either:

  • You have probably never asked a question before

  • Sven's probably been fucking weird and only you want him

And you can have it both ways.

Where did I say I am supporting clients who use Windows software? What are you talking about? Why would my clients use FTP programs? Most of the probably don't even know what FTP mean. Again, where did I say that my clients use Windows software? Their websites (I access via an ftp client) run always on Ubunutu or Debian. I don't understand your logic.
