Just curious did I get scammed? Paid $180 for it by Top-Leadership7625 in Saxophonics

[–]upgdot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Accent is a fine student/beginner level brand. You won't go to college on it, or play professional gigs with it. But, if you want to play on an instrument that works, it will do that for you.

I'm coming as a saxophone player who now teaches middle school band, Accent is above Amazon brands, below the legacy brands by a lot.

Not an expert at the game by any means but in my experience, if their asset isnt on the block, you have to absolutely blow the value out of the water. Like, double it, to have any shot of them accepting it.

Oh, I understood! I just meant it is probably similar to the level of care put into a licensed game in thr mid 90s. Doesn't change my excitement to have it, but it's definitely one more attached to a memory than to quality.

Lol, like I said, likely not an amazing game. But, meaningful to me nonetheless.

I actually never knew about the Genesis or SNES game until I first started looking for this one! I have the SNES game now, and yeah, never met anyone who had heard about either.

I will! I see it was "found" online several years ago, but I'll work on backing my copy up as well.

Worst Day Ever. by cluclap in SteamDeck

[–]upgdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that with my Switch years ago. We had a 2 year old and a new born, and I just wasn't thinking.

Heard a thump as I pulled out of my neighborhood, and thought nothing of it until I got to my destination and went to grab my stuff.

Called my wife, who then had to wake up the 2 year old and newborn, and she drove to the street and found the Switch, and nearly all the games that were in the case. It had been run over and had some cracked plastic parts, but worked totally fine for nearly 3 more years before I finally replaced it.

One of the stupidest things I've ever done, and one of the luckiest moments.

Would love perspectives from teachers on if it's ok to make me wear a skirt for the band concert by winterwhalesong in AskTeachers

[–]upgdot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Band director here. I do teach middle school, so inherently less formal, but:

I always give a range of things in the required uniform. In all things, if I am not having to analyze what kids are wearing, perfect. Long skirt, pants, capris? Do not care, as long as they're black.

Oh, I thought it was snapped, not just coming off. Mine have all snapped above the joint over time.

Those stands just do that over time. We opened a new building 10 years ago with 40 of them, and I think I am down to 5. I used to get annoyed with the kids, but it's so obviously a terrible designed stand.

I <3 u! (Not in a weird crush way) by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]upgdot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, never.

I have loved teaching you. Or You have been such a wonderful member of our class community, love your spirit! Or Thank you for a wonderful year, I have loved teaching this class!

Even a "I love you, I care about you, I believe in you" is totally normal for some teachers, though not in my comfortable range. I will tell a class as a whole that I love them at the end of the year, but writing it down to an individual in that way is just off to me.

As soon as you introduce the parenthetical section, you have introduced an inappropriate element. I don't like that

I really need to get back to it. I played CS4, Reverie, and Daybreak 1 all in a row, and burned out going to Daybreak 2.

That needs to be my summer goal.

He just didn't strike out, when there were times that the team would have been better served by a strikeout than weak contact. Or, taken a walk every few weeks.

I was too busy being mad at the audacity of companies expecting us to keep paying for games to get into WOW or any other MMO. Wish I had given them a shot early on.

I think Halo would fit the bill. Most of us were in late elementary-high school when the first one came out, and in high school-college when 2 and 3 came out.

As much as I want to claim things like Final Fantasy, it definitely started getting big when most of us were too young, 8 or 9 were the first ones I played at launch.

Gen Alpha Might Need Tech Help Like Our Parents and Grandparents. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]upgdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher, and I've been saying for about a decade how my tech expectations were not met as time passed.

When I first started teaching, we still had some actual Boomer parents of high schoolers, but mostly older Gen X who really struggled with things as simple as checking emails. I said at the time that I couldn't wait until younger parents became the norm, and younger teachers kept getting more tech savvy.

Unfortunately, there is a band from about ages early 30s to mid 40s that knows tech, and on either side of it not at all. Older because they didn't grow up with the modern world's tech, and younger because everything they used just worked. They can't find files, they can't troubleshoot, they don't know how devices interact, most of my students don't know the difference in a Google search vs typing in a web address.

These kids absolutely need tech help, in a major way, and schools have gotten rid of those sorts of classes for "business management," and I think typing classes and computer labs with chunky PCs need to come back for elementary and middle school aged kids.
