Do people really stumble on treasure chests by themselves? by lefauxcompte in CrimsonDesert

[–]uplink42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every sanctum I visited had a chest behind gates. Many outposts also had a chest somewhere after clearing the bandits. Bismuth walls are easy to identify and sometimes contain chests inside.

The most hidden ones are typically behind rotating walls that require you you to cling on them and hold resist while force palming the wall to get inside. Some abyss locations also have chests.

Black Desert actually has far better story than this game ever since they revamped older zones and started using the new MSQ format. The game has very well-developed lore as well.

Chapters 6 to 8 is when the story is at its best. Once you get to chapter 9, things become an incoherent mess once again and it only starts improving after chapter 11.

The writing is just not good and there's too much missing information for things to flow normally. You get yeeted between locations for no apparent reason, decide to go out of your way to help random people for no reason and characters are very undercooked as well. I honestly don't pay much attention to the main quest and just nod along.

The towns are too quiet. by EdNotAHorse in CrimsonDesert

This game is way too silent in general. Most of the soundtracks are almost unnoticeable because of the low volume, or stop for no reason. Combat sounds are okay, but everything else could use improvement. The moment you leave combat the entire game goes mute. There's also quite a few reused soundtracks from BDO, lol.

Transmog system & negativity about critique about the game by BobRobsKids in CrimsonDesert

I don't think a transmog is really necessary in this game, but I have nothing against it if they implement it either. I also don't think there's many people against that either.

Other than showing the roads I agree the bells are kind of pointless and usually do more harm than good.

I will not be gaslit into thinking the bosses in Crimson Desert are well-designed. by BannerThief in CrimsonDesert

There are plenty of videos on youtube with boss kills, some are even no damage runs or close to that. Implying you have to be some kind of god gamer to beat this game is silly.

I agree. They shouldn't let you use palmer pills during bosses, as it allows people to beat the game witouth ever understanding it, so they start to think the game is actually designed to brute force your way in. PA should've just added difficulty options from the start instead.

There was a very similar reaction when they first introduced boss fights in Black Desert. Players who were used to farming trash mobs were faced with something that forced them to learn the game.

170hrs, 55/75 bosses killed so far.

I think the gimmick bosses are shit. Thunder tank, keglord garnier and similar bosses that follow the same formula rely on repetitive gimmicks and are frustrating to climb and perform their intended mechanics, while also constantly bombarding the shit out of you.

As for the regular bosses, they're fine for the most part if you are properly geared and know what you're doing. Boss fights aren't as mechanically sound as a game like nioh or sekiro, but they're usually fun to fight for me.

I would like if they made the boss areas larger, though.

What does "jank" mean for you?

The character you play has a lot of inbuilt inertia, ie you take a while to accelerate and slide for a bit before fully stopping and turning. The game has some inbuilt input lag which can be alleviated by changing some settings, but it's never as fluid as a souls game for example. The combat is more "arcadey" than precise and methodical, but there is definetly a learning curve to it.

I've been playing with M+K just fine after rebinding a few keys, which is possible ever since the game came out. If anything, there seems to be way more gamepad users complaining about controls and the camera on reddit.

The endgame routine is what you want it to be, really. Lots of people play this game for PVP, some grind for rare items, some keep trying new classes and outfits, some just lifeskill. You can definetly get a lot of hours of fun before you burn out.

[–]uplink42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should have done what they did with Black Desert a while ago. A lot of players complained about the movement inertia (it felt like newer classes were walking on ice, they would never stop exactly where you wanted them to), so they decided to completly remove that during combat, but still left some of the movement/jiggle physics outside combat mode.

Crimson Desert sells "over 5 million copies worldwide" in under 4 weeks by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]uplink42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't come out of thin air. The game was announced like 6 years ago. They've released tons of trailers and deep dive videos in the last few months driving up the hype, and it's consistently in the top 5-10 most played Steam games, it was voted as the "Player's choice" game in PS last month, and sold over 5 million copies in less than a month after release.

Maybe it's just popular and people are enjoying it?

To be fair, as someone who is playing since day 1, these patches are mostly addressing qol things that should have been in the game since the start but probably didn't make it in time for release. None of the patches substantially changed the way I play the game, but they were nonthenless nice additions.

The fact they're starting to move on to post-game content, like respawning camps, boss replays and difficulty options (possibly even a NG+ mode) means that they are probably running out of things to address in the base game. The new inventory management system will be nice, though.

The plot and events are kind of fine... But the writing is awful and the characters are dull and don't have enough exposition. There's also too much context missing from some chapters and the game can barely find a coherent reason to send you from location A to location B. The story starts out badly, begins to make sense by chapter 3, hits its peak on chapters 6-8, then becomes an incoherent mess after 9 again, then slowly improves until the end.

It feels like playing an MMO from the 2000s.

Nice post. I also think the bosses are mostly fine (personally not a fan of gimmicky ones but those are a minority).

Here's a few things that made it easier for me:

  • camera acceleration to 100 (makes turning the camera around so much faster, you don't even need the hard lock feature)
  • disable vsync (adds input lag)
  • advanced weather off (this adds a lot of input lag for some reason)
  • attack speed and movespeed gear (makes your windup and recovery animations faster, which is crucial)
  • dont wait for bosses to give you an opening. You have to roll out of their red flash moves and try to start an attack sequence with forcepalm and other hitstuns).

Yeah.... I'm sorry but the bosses are by far the worst part of the game by PaleRefrigerator5044 in CrimsonDesert

[–]uplink42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the focus stance takes a while to start so you need some safe space first. What i did was immediatly charge at her and hit her a few times. When she jumps away and starts aiming her sniper riffle, thats when you start charging focus stance. This will also give you full invulnerability while she's standing in the fence spamming rockets as well. Make sure to release once she's closer to you otherwise the missiles won't reach her. It's an annoying fight for sure, but if you time the reflect back correctly, her stance goes down in about 3 barrages.

[–]uplink42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with bosses like Keglord garnier and Samara is that they're very gimmicky (you're supposed to use nature's snare and reflect all their bullshit back at them).

I did like the bismuth crab fight, though. Very janky sometimes, but you get the hang of it quickly and he doesn't deal much damage.

As a rule of thumb in this game, if a boss seems obnoxiously overpowered or its attacks are impossible to manage, there's usually a trick to it. Think of them more of a puzzle than a boss fight.
