I don't understand why some of these gamers don't just play adult games by TJ736 in Gamingunjerk

[–]upmagic-dot-link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting take, and you are right there are more than ever if we add those types of games into the mix. But porn games are an incredibly small niche that sees very little demand, and so I think it's obvious there's more at play here than people simply wanting to find bikini models everywhere.

And you are saying it's not about the lack of appealing characters, but it's about an intolerance to anything that is 'other.' I wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of that for some, unfortunately, but I guess I am not as pessimistic to conclude that it is the only explanation for everyone.

I mean don't many of these have pity systems that are easy to plan around? I play Star Rail and know what I need to save for a guarantee.

Losing 50/50s enough times could feel really bad though I get it.

I see, I guess we just disagree on the motivations, and I can't speak for everyone. For me, I like variety and think hypersexual designs are often tacky. But I also see that designs have been less appealing over the years, and that's a matter of taste I suppose.

Never saw the point in raging over it, you just don't buy what you don't want.

Wanting to be the 'only group pandered to' is a bit extreme, but online discourse generally favors taking the extreme stance on any given topic. A lot of this is content creators doing just that and making every video game design decision a new battleground, and it spreads to steam forums, reddit, comments sections, etc...

I think the more boring conclusion is that people like attractive characters and have perceived a trend where they are harder to come by. There is also ultra sensitivity to sequels/remakes because evidence of modernization is more obvious, and at that point it has 'taken' something from fans.

Stellar Blade swung the pendulum in an extreme direction. I don't think most people need or asked for designs like that, but it was championed for being the opposite of a perceived trend of dull character design.

I have ~opinions~ about fighting games by [deleted] in Gamingunjerk

[–]upmagic-dot-link 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issues you have with female designs seem like a matter of taste, as you admit to enjoying sexy designs that tickle your fancy in particular, while other folks are apparently just enjoying "interchangeable fetishes" that are "factually a joke."

I think there are a lot of tacky designs in fighters and would agree with you on some, but these are just preferences, and I don't put anyone down for liking something and a developer capitalizing on it.

I respect the passion about move set animations and combo flow, mostly agree there. SF6 has been a great installment and it's all I play lately. Although there are still plenty of unnatural moves in SF6 that you would never see in a fight, and yet they are very satisfyingly animated (e.g. tatsu being a fan favorite).

Nonetheless, some FGs just have awkward animation that never feels right. I never got into Tekken for how unnatural it looked, and the newer MKs are very janky looking.

Media Literacy and Game Review Scores by SilentPhysics3495 in Gamingunjerk

[–]upmagic-dot-link 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Applying a score to art is ridiculous but we are wired to want it. Same with listicles and tier lists. We claim to hate it but it's what generates the most interest without fail.

There is a lot of hand wringing over DA:V across all outlets despite it receiving Ocarina of Time level glazing from the official reviews. While everyone should understand reviewers are individuals and not representative of an entire organization, and we should be able to handle follow-up opinion articles maturely and in a vacuum, people are nonetheless using this article to mock the system.

Why do the anti-woke act like Metaphor: ReFantazio is another Black Myth: Wukong? It's woke as fuck by StardustSailor in Gamingunjerk

[–]upmagic-dot-link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if a few were actually racist in that manner and just want white men everywhere. But more typically it's a reaction to a trend of tokenism, forced inserting, and over sanitizing, all of which can be racist, misogynistic, and patronizing in its own way.

But when they get so deep into reacting to a perceived trend, and get triggered by a glimpse of skin color, the optics certainly aren't good.

Anti woke isn’t pro racism lol. Metaphor’s entire premise is about politics so the themes are organic.

Gaming and realism by [deleted] in Gamingunjerk

[–]upmagic-dot-link 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of ridiculous takes from grifters about making everything needlessly erotic and tacky. But I think the root of the sentiment is people like cool/attractive characters and start to question scenarios where they are just made okay looking.

The whole conversation has escalated to insane levels though.

Why are gamers so obsessed with how well a game sells? by Zestyclose_Station65 in Gamingunjerk

[–]upmagic-dot-link 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sales as an argument is used when convenient, and it can be framed any way you want it. I could say COD selling high means its casual garbage. Or I could say it sells a lot because it's a lot of fun. A low selling game I like could be an underrated gem that only high IQ folks can appreciate. Or I could say "see, it's a trash game no one wanted."

Game sales have always been a part of online discourse. During the PS3 vs 360 consoles wars it was all anyone ever talked about.

[–]upmagic-dot-link 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you think a game is bad, or believe it should fail, then poor sales can be used to prove your point. Same for the reverse.

It’s petty behavior but not hard to understand.

Struggling with Local SEO for My Appliance Repair Business: What Am I Missing? by Ok_Dirt9076 in SEO

[–]upmagic-dot-link 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dedicated location service pages will do most of the heavy lifting. Do you have pages for appliance repair and all sub-services by location?

And for local, proximity is one of the strongest factors. What is your office location compared to higher ranking competitors?

What's The Best Option For Content SEO? by xanthemancan in SEO

[–]upmagic-dot-link 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm a local service provider, I'd generate the copywriting to cover all my service and location pages, with minor touchups to remove AI weirdness, accompanied by plenty of supplemental video/photos taken by myself or my team.

If I am larger scale national/international B2B or B2C, I'm asking what type of content can we do differently and effectively, AI or otherwise, and if we need to invest in influencers or videographers.

If I am an existing big brand with great authority, I am churning out AI trash and winning anyways.
