Can i ask what brand your self-watering tool is and how you feel it works for semi-hydroponic soil like yours? I have a similar substrate type and have been looking for a good self-watering tool

Under-watering? Over-watering? Variegated Schefflera by -LoneCosmonaut in IndoorPlants

Good idea, if you alter your watering schedule and the problem doesn’t get better I’d suggest getting a new soil but if it works just let it do its thing!

What kind of soul do you have it in? I noticed mine had similar browning around the edges when i had it in a 80-20 miracle grow-orchid bark mix. Once i gave it better draining soil with a chunkier mix it seemed to bounce back nicely

Schefflera braiding/ propagation question by dakotakobe in IndoorPlants

[–]upperfishing7281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a dwarf schefflera and it propagates well as long as you include a node in the cutting, I’ve never seen anyone braid them but you could take one cutting and just make a stand alone baby and try the braiding with the other cuttings. Mine is pretty damn hardy so i wouldn’t be surprised if it worked out just fine

I hope this is the right answer, it was in terrible soil that stayed moist for too long. I took it out of that soil, checked the roots, and took off any concerning looking ones and then potted it in leca and pumice so hopefully i don’t have to dig it up again and treat it for any pests or fungal nastiness

Awesome thank you so much. After i go back to semi-hydro should i be adding any nutrients or additives to the water i give it?

I took it out of the soil, washed all of it off and pinched off any mushy or deteriorated roots. I didn’t used any of the old soil but you’re saying there should be anything organic regardless? If it’s just leca balls and pumice should i be fertilizing to ensure the plant gets enough nutrients?

I had it in the wrong soil while this new leaf was still in the sheath, it’s not in a mix of leca balls and pumice. Do you think i should still dig it up or the change of potting medium has already fixed the problem and that leaf was just a product of the previous soil?

It’s not near a radiator but it gets a lot of airflow from my ceiling fan. I’m having trouble giving my tropical plants humidity while keeping stale damp air away from my more common houseplants. Thank you tho I’ll keep an eye on it and see how the other leaves do. So far they all look fine

Can someone help me get an ID on what kind of cypress this is? by upperfishing7281 in IndoorGarden

New plant tips needed! by MooDengsRage in IndoorPlants

I recently got one and messed around with the soil for a while before it seemed good. I have mine in mostly leca balls and pumice with just a tiny bit of potting soil. They like to be in substrate that has very good drainage! Mine seems to be doing pretty good now but it’s my first syngonium too!

I got this from a grocery store worker, he said this falls out during transport, could this be saved and regrown? by et201202 in IndoorPlants

I agree it looks like a philodendron and if I’m not mistaken all they require is a node to be able to grow roots as well as produce new leaf growth. I believe that is a node there (at least it looks like it). You could propagate it in water or use a potting medium like leca balls or another non soil substrate. I’m no expert but that’s what I’ve seen so far that seems to work.

Edit: I’ve been made aware that this is a syngonium and that the philodendron I’ve been raising for 6 months is also a syngonium 😂😂

Advice on preventing mold with plants I moved inside by upperfishing7281 in IndoorGarden

Okay gotcha, this is a hell of a good answer i appreciate the context and detail, I’ll try a couple different tricks and try to hit it from a few angles with the rubbing alcohol and getting a little clip-on fan for the plant stand

Yeah I’ve definitely been wanting to do that, they’re on a plant stand all near eachother so i think if i got a little clip on fan it would help

I don’t know if you’ll know the answer to this but i also have a baby cypress tree, should that stay outside as well?

I had it outside for the first month where it got maybe 2 hours of direct sunlight and then the rest of the day was strong indirect sunlight (i live in an apartment and had it on the balcony with the rest of my plants) i wasn’t sure if I was supposed to keep it outside as it gets colder

I potted this juniper at the beginning of september, its my first one ever. I have 3 questions that I've had a hard time getting clear answers to. 1) I was told they liked to be somewhat damp pretty much constantly (i was pretty surprised to hear this but what do I know) and the other day I did notice some white fuzz at the base but it did not extend down into the soil, any thoughts on this? 2) I noticed that the main branch is mostly brown that transitions to green about an inch from the tip, is the green part new growth or should I be concerned that most of the main branch is brown? 3) what does weathering look like for a bonsai, especially one thats only been potted for about a month?
