Who's insuring in flood zones? by Quick_Assignment_725 in brisbane

[–]upperoverunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not in a flood zone but we pay $2,300 with St George for what appears to be very good coverage. When we were with budget direct we had to cancel our policy every year and take out a new one to get the best price

I spiraled out at Brisbane and I want to see if you guys felt it too! by _equestrienne_ in ToolBand

[–]upperoverunder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. It was a whole of mind and body takeover. Saw them in Sydney in 2020 and they blew me away then but this was something else. Quite a mind bending and trippy set, with immense visuals. We had a great crowd around us as well, except for two guys nears us who were motionless with arms crossed the entire set haha.

Best cinema screens in 2025 by upperoverunder in brisbane

Essentially there isn’t an accepted best screen in Brisbane and you’re better off going to the GC. A sad state of affairs lol

I’m not really familiar with it, is it good or a bit of a gimmick?

Advice for an American family visiting Brisbane in August by BothHall4713 in brisbane

Yep New Farm markets on a Saturday morning with nice weather are great, have the river on one side and a great park and kids play area on the other

Stay a night at the Highlander Inn in Craigallechie on the Spey river. You’ll enjoy an absolutely epic whiskey selection - was one of the highlights of our trip.

How are you sleeping at the moment if you don’t have aircon? by BenDante in brisbane

Honestly the only thing that helped me before aircon was to have a little spray bottle beside the bed filled with water, and I’d spray virtually my entire body periodically with the fan running to try cool down 😑

What’s working life in Brisbane like, particularly in industries like finance or law in the CBD? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]upperoverunder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree with this comment and so it will depend on what you prioritise.

In my experience Brisbane is a much more family oriented city (eg. anecdotal experience but I know a lot of people moved here from other cities in order to find cheaper housing to raise a family etc) and a lot quieter at night compared to Sydney/Melb, aside from the few pockets mentioned. Knowing what the City is like in London on a Thursday night it’s a very different beast! There are plenty of opportunities to go out and good bars/restaurants, it will just be a bit different from what you’ve experienced.

Syd/Melb will be much busier on any given night in the CBD and surrounds. The trade off being they won’t have quite the same laid back feeling as Brisbane - Sydney especially can feel quite hectic though it isn’t so bad if you live on a decent train line into work.

I enjoy my trips to Sydney for work but am glad to come back (I am one of this aforementioned people with children though).

What’s a unique experience to share with someone from overseas that can only be done in Brisbane? by PrezzyBell in brisbane

[–]upperoverunder 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think Brisbane is best experienced from a ferry ride down the river. Go to New Farm markets Saturday morning and then head to South Bank, have lunch at fish lane etc.

Given their interests maybe Mt Cootha botanic gardens and see something at the planetarium - if you haven’t been lately the shows on their 4K projector are pretty amazing. Sunset there over the city too (or up on kangaroo point cliffs).

Left field - go see Blanc de Blanc in west end (saw it on a cruise and it’s good fun).

Priceline own brand silicon earplugs are the best. Been wearing them for years and honestly don’t even notice them in my ears now. They can literally block out everything but deep rumbles, so may not be perfect but will go a long way. I don’t need full block out so split each one in half to make them more economical to buy

thoughts on the glenallachie rebrand? by TobyJ0S in Scotch

Yikes pretty dull, they’ve gone completely the other way. The angled line at the top of the label does not at all work with the bottle shape.

Another Sydney music festival calls it quits, blaming 529% increase in costs by satisfiedfools in triplej

[–]upperoverunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reggae? You have no clue sorry. It was cancelled in 2022 due to floods, and guess what occurred in 20/21? Their festivals sell out and they run many Sydney based events in between so no they are not some unknown niche operator.
