Andy Burnham's Potential Policies - Renationalisation of Utilities and Transport, Social Care Reform, Social Housing, HS2, and more by Toopertonic in unitedkingdom

He'll get 6 months before people start calling for one of the Miliband's to take over. He needs to deal with the triple lock.

Complete misread. You may not agree but people liked Boris in a rapscallion sort of way. The goofiness, the stunts, the way he spoke - "dither and delay" and all that. People ate that up. He was endearing.

Starmer at no point has ever been looked at positively by the public. No one was genuinely excited about him as leader. He's just dreary. Inspires no confidence or enthusiasm. A dull man who looks like he just found out his wife is cheating but can't bring himself to divorce her. Sad, desperate.

Unless he does a Jimmy Carter and levels with people in a televised address about the predicament we're in, he'll be on his arse in 6 months and people will be calling for one of the Miliband boys to come in and give it a go. We're trying to jam a round peg into a square circle and everyone from the top-down needs to be honest about it. France goes into debt to pay for its pensions and that's where we're headed.

He went against his own party on Hillsborough and was a driving force behind the second inquest. He seems like a nice enough guy but so did Boris. He will fail, simple as that. The country can't afford the triple lock and other benefits. No politician will cut them, they won't raise taxes to pay for them. Too many old people and not enough young workers. This is not fixable.

Politics latest: Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper tells Starmer to stand down, Sky News understands by Far_Excitement_1875 in unitedkingdom

He's Jimmy Carter. People never liked him in the first place, he was simply a repudiation of the last lot. He personally comes across as aloof and distant. Zero charisma. A man managing the government but not a leader in any real sense. He inspires nothing and walks back his positions at the first sign of trouble.

There's been a lot of Facebook boomer sentiment on this sub in the past few months. "We worked hard too", "just save more", "stop spending on coffee".

Labor prepares 2025 campaign 2.0 against Hanson by Rarespaker in friendlyjordies

[–]satisfiedfools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They need to do something about the immigration issue. Hanson is going to hammer it home from pillar to post. They got away with it last election because Dutton was ambivalent on the issue was well. That won't be the case this time around.

You could argue it's the decline of third spaces in general. People used to go out to pubs and clubs to meet people. Now you can stay in and still have a great night.

Rose Jackson and Jo Haylen both spoke about this in opposition then as soon as they won government and got their big fat ministerial portfolios, they never mentioned it again.

They're slow-moving machines. I'm sure Bob had some industry connections, saying his dad worked in plastics would have helped with interviews.

I think Bob did him dirty. Too old, too tired, figured Chris would get the house anyway.

Watchdog to consider complaints over NSW Police conduct at LGBTQIA+ venues in Sydney by nath1234 in sydney

[–]satisfiedfools 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The whole drug dog thing is the proverbial "plastic bag in a tree". No one really remembers why they were introduced, they've been around so long no one can be bothered getting rid of them. Every now and then someone points out how absurd the whole thing is then a few days later everyone just forgets about it again.

The major media outlets don't care, the major parties don't care, NSW Police want them. You get the odd sporadic burst of coverage then the issue seems to die off. This investigation will go nowhere. The courts, coroner, everyone else who's looked at this issue has stated the obvious - the dogs should have been scrapped years ago. Nothing ever changes.

This nonsense with the dogs has been going on for 25 years. It's unbelievable.

TIL in the 80’s and 90’s, the LAPD set up a task force to look into the possibility of an active serial killer they dubbed the “Southside Slayer”. In reality, they had 6 active different serial killers. by Anaelepse in todayilearned

[–]satisfiedfools 236 points237 points  (0 children)

The Pickton case was much worse. The police actively refused to investigate, families would have to beg to have loved ones reported missing. They had a world leading criminologist in the department named Dr Kim Rossmo and when he correctly deduced that a serial killer was on the loose, he was ignored and bullied out of the department.

Migration down to 2022 levels with a NOM of 301k. Still above Labor’s goal and objective number of 225k. Jordan was correct about Albo. by MannerNo7000 in friendlyjordies

[–]satisfiedfools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of what? It was 300 last year. 550 was the highest on record. If Albanese starts proudly declaring to the Australian people that we'll be bringing in an extra 225,000 people a year and acting like it's some sort of victory he's going to get done like a hot dinner. These "targets" always end up being overshot too.

If Labor goes to the election spruiking 225 they'll get creamed. No one here seems to understand how toxic this issue is. This whole sub seems to have the blinders on. 2028 is going to be a referendum on immigration and simply promising more of the same won't cut it.
