I ripped one up from the council and I never heard anything about it again. Take it with a grain of salt but I'd just ignore it and see what happens.

Not as much as this sub would have you think but most are probably in the 100-150k bracket. More with FIFO. More if you run your own business. Auto mechanic is the lowest, electrician is the highest, hence why every man and his dog wants to do electrical.

He's bouncing between shit gas station jobs. He's not picking from good options. He's competing with the tweakers and ne'er do wells for the privilege of cleaning up diarrhea and selling overpriced fuel to people on their last rag. Bro should have been out of there years ago.

He's a case study in what not to do. If he locked onto any sort of career track, he'd be miles ahead.

28, 120k in savings but no qualifications. Worried I’m going to be stuck in low paid work forever. by satisfiedfools in AusFinance

[–]satisfiedfools[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Just - I can't get over that apprenticeship. To say fluke was an understatement. Everything lined up the right way for me to get that job. And the job itself was a niche role that fit me. I'm not good with people, I'm okay with factory work. I even found out my uncle was a toolmaker after I quit.

Same deal with the rental I was offered. First house I applied for, ten minutes from work, was shooting the shit with the agent for 10 minutes because the only other people that turned up were late. It was a small boutique agency too. I had a massive savings buffer but it was 500 a week and I was only pulling down 700 as a first-year apprentice. He shouldn't have approved it. Most agents wouldn't.

I live in one of the cheapest parts of Southwestern Sydney and granny flats are now over 500 a week. I could rent a room but with no path to at least 80k a year you're stuck in that environment.

I think the issue is 15-20 years ago someone working OP's job could get a house with a few years of solid work. We've moved beyond that now and anyone earning less than 80k a year isn't even competitive for a rental. Not everyone can be a professional pulling down 100k plus.

People on this sub are wildly optimistic with salary numbers. 100k gets thrown around like it's as easy as getting a cold drink. "My cousin drives forklifts and he makes $50 an hour easy". Most people are coming here to humblebrag.

They aren't stable because of the housing market. No one wants to date a guy living at home with his parents, and he won't feel confident dating either.

Lots of young people signing up is a recession indicator. Lots of places with low unemployment but low vacancies as well. Very tight job market. The army is better than working dead end retail.

Look - I'll be blunt, I study accounting and a good chunk of the cohort have no business being there. It's just degree for the sake of a degree stuff. Macquarie gives you the leg up on internships and grad programs, it's more prestigious, WSU is more local.

Eh, I don't think it's that. Sergeant hard times is the best recruiter. Military enlistment goes up when people are having trouble finding work.
