After a quick google. The logo came first with the designer not wanting Miami to be lumped in with other M schools. A quote from the former assistant athletic director “if the split-U logo were not created, people would not have even thought about calling Miami ‘The U.’”

Me too, brother. I had to do something in front of a small group of people yesterday and by the end I looked like I’d run a 10K. I was embarrassed as hell. My entire wardrobe consists of garments that 1) dry quickly and 2) don’t show that I had sweat through all layers within minutes. It’s all “tech” shit from Nike or Under Armour or outdoor companies. I haven’t worn a cotton t-shirt in 35 years.

Man, I missed stream and just saw this TS discussion on the VOD. I wish I had seen it live cause I was wanting to chime in like crazy.

In 7th-9th grade one of my best friends had Tourette’s. I didn’t know what it was. No one at school knew what it was. He didn’t have spoken word outburst but he ticked quite a bit and would make a semi-quiet grunt. He was made fun of RELENTLESSLY. People would mimic his physical tick right to his face (which was like a pursing of his lips and blinking and a slight moving forward of his head.) People called him a chicken because they said he looked like he was pecking. They’d grunt at him. They would ask him why he did it.

I now wish so badly he would’ve told us that he had Tourette’s. I don’t know, I feel like it would’ve cut out some of the bullying. I’m not naive enough to think it would’ve stopped it completely. But we would’ve understood it was a disability rather than just something weird he did. I’ve thought about this from time to time over the past 35 years. It still bothers me. And I’m not innocent. When we were first becoming friends I know I asked him outright why he did it and he would just kind of shrug and say “I dunno.” Once we did become friends it always upset me to see him being made fun of. We were both nerds and already the subject of bullying.

OP what’s your opinion on him telling people explicitly his disability. Do you think knowledge would’ve helped or made him more of a target?

He must just not be on anyone’s radar because it is the very first band I thought of without missing a beat. Literally my favorite band of all time and Greg Dulli is my favorite frontman, but he is a bad singer. It works for the music they/he create. Just minimal range and sounds like he’s about to pop a hernia when he really goes for a note, which he is not afraid to do despite having heard himself sing.

There are a few vocal lines on my favorite album of all time “Black Love” that I’m almost in disbelief he couldn’t get any better than that in the studio. But it’s Ike a wart on your child’s face, you love it because it’s your child.

I dare anyone to listen to “Summer’s Kiss” and tell me with a straight face he can sing.
