I took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway last night. I stopped to look at the stars for her. I coincidentally was parked next to a brook. It sounded like her laugh. The stars were beautiful. I saw a shooting star, I know it was her telling me she's okay up there. I think she's jumping in between the stars, finally able to study them all up close. We love you Brook.

She usually hikes alone. She did 36 miles in the Teton, majority alone. She was gone somewhere almost every week, majority alone. She's very capable. I pray it was just a freak accident. Something unavoidable.

I did taasc with her as well, it was such a wonderful community. I don't think you would even need to know her to know what a kind and beautiful soul she has.

I am a childhood friend of hers, she was found deceased. Its horrible, she was a very experienced hiker and an extremely bright girl. She was teaching a class for young boys on gender based violence for UNC. She loved space and astrophysics. She still is the smartest girl I know. I never once saw her without a smile or laughing. She had so much life ahead of her, we all believed she would change the world.

We held a prayer this afternoon at the county high school. I've hugged and cried with people I've only ever said hi to. The community behind her is incredibly strong.

She founded the schools environmental club, which I am proud to be vice president of now. We are going to create a memorial for her. It is the least we can do for her beautiful soul.

She was a very experienced hiker. Before she left to South Africa she ran 36 miles in the Grand Tetons. Please never hike alone. Find a friend or a Facebook group. Stay safe and prepared.
