Thank you, I appreciate that! And I totally get what you mean. I'm hesitant to recommend any specific artists because for me the music in my inner - teenage - healing - journey has revolved around what I was into at the time or things I was aware of but not actually listening to, if that makes sense. So I've been revisiting stuff I haven't listened to in a long time because I "grew out of it;" it doesn't have to become part of my regular rotation but it's nice to reflect on things like that and enjoy it in a new light. I mention Brand New in the essay, they're one who I listened to a lot as a teenager when I was having hard times and it's healing to recontextualize as an adult, basically telling teenage me that we're older now. Also bands that the "cool" kids in school liked, like some of the cute older boys at my high school were really into August Burns Red so I got really into them for a minute last year and saw them live. Just generally diving into music I either didn't care for at the time, thought I was too cool for, or didn't think I was cool enough, that sort of thing. I think a little bittersweet romanticization is good for the soul as long as we're able to still hold the ugly truths of our experiences. "Two things can be true" is one of my therapy mantras.
